I've seen two Cougars games this year and Rademacher has raked in both, including the longest homer I've seen in that park. For anyone familiar with 5th 3rd park, he hit it to straight away right field, over the canopy section, onto the walkway. TT was there for that game as well.

Hoyer said the Cubs made a "significant" savings on the remaining $4.9 million on Marmol's contract, but a source said it's not close to the $2 million that was reported. Guerrier has around $1.8 million left on his deal.

Hoyer said Carlos Villanueva will be stretched out in hopes of joining the rotation.

Overall, the Cubs will net $963,000 in international bonus pool money to spend on signings, which Hoyer said was one of the keys to the deals."This is an international class our scouts really like," Hoyer said. "We felt like it was very deep, we really like some of the impact talent in this year's class and the additional dollars can help us be aggressive in the international market." The Cubs have signed 16-year-old Venezuelan shortstop Gleyber Torres, considered one of the top prospects from that country, for $1.7 million."We're hopeful we can add a number of those guys," Hoyer said.

The names that matter the most are Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres. Some experts consider them the two best players available in the Latin American signing period that just opened, and the Cubs were working furiously to sign both without exceeding the signing limit. Because the Cubs had the second-worst record in 2012, they had the second-highest pool to sign international teenagers — $4,557,200. Teams are allowed to add to that total through trades, and the Cubs increased their working total to $5,520,300 while moving slot space in a series of trades, including one that sent Double-A second baseman Ronald Torreyes to the Astros. Torres, a Venezuelan shortstop, agreed to a deal for $1.7 million with the Cubs. They also signed pitchers Jefferson Mejia and Erling Moreno for $850,000 and $800,000, respectively. That leaves a little over $2 million for Jimenez, a Dominican outfielder who draws comparisons to Jermaine Dye, and the Cubs might have to get more from somewhere else to get his name on the line.

Though trade acquisition Jake Arrieta has been hammered by big league lefties (.856 OPS), he actually showed a slight reverse split at Triple-A Norfolk, where he logged 270 innings dating back to 2009. They hit .233/.318/.324 with just five home runs in 481 plate appearances against Arrieta, though his command was merely ordinary with 19.9 percent strikeouts and 10.2 percent walks.

Minor league free agent pickup Brian Bogusevic, a versatile 29-year-old outfielder, hit .319/.418/.512 with 10 homers in 304 plate appearances at Triple-A Iowa. His .929 OPS ranked second among qualified Pacific Coast League outfielders, behind only the Rockies’ Corey Dickerson, who also got called up last week. Bogusevic may be the perfect fourth outfielder—lefty bat, great arm, can cover center field, solid power (.192 isolated power in Triple-A), solid speed (6.9 speed score) and good batting eye (13 percent walk rate).
