I think that I've watched the highlights at least two dozen times today, and listened to the WGN Radio call at least 40.

That Niemi save on Carter in the closing minutes of the third is epic. It looks at first glance that Carter just choked and put it right into Niemi's mask. But then you watch, and Carter took a perfect cross-net pass, and instead of just flailing over, Niemi used his sick leg strength and low center of gravity to get over in a good butterfly position, and then used that good position to lean forward and cut off any elevation angle that Carter would have had.

Most important save in Blackhawks team history.

What was the season long Kyle/dexter argument about?

The heart of it was that dexter thought that the March swoon was a sign of something fundamentally flawed with the team and that we'd crash and burn in the playoffs, especially without a new goalie.

it was more than march though. they were decidedly average for a stretch of at least 2 months. in that stretch they were barely over .500, and had a goal differential of close to even.

now that i look back on it, it was probably mostly what my brother kept claiming to be the problem at the time. they seemed to be coasting and lost the intensity. they're a young team, got off to a ridiculous start, and everybody was crowning them as champs.

i think it even carried into the postseason just a bit in that nashville series. it wasn't until game 2 or 3 of the canucks series where i saw that fire and swagger come back. so maybe it was good that we ended up playing vancouver. it probably fired us up. it certainly fired byfuglien up.

it makes you wonder about sooo many little things. what if we beat detroit on the final day of the regular season and get the 1 seed? everything would be different. what if we had gotten a goalie at the deadline? maybe that goalie sucks during the playoffs and we don't win anything. what if philadelphia loses the shootout to NY on the last day of the regular season and miss the playoffs? maybe we're playing washington or pittsburgh instead.

And Duncan Keith is incredibly lucky he's not the new Bartman right now. That turnover to start overtime was absolutely horrific, and it ended with a puck bouncing toward Niemi that could have easily bounced over his leg instead of into it.

keith is a magician on the blue line, but i dont know what happened to him in terms of controlling the puck in our zone. it was a season long thing and never reallt corrected itself. i don't remember him doing it the previous season, but holy crap did that guy make a ridiculous amount of atrocious turnovers this season.

still a badass though. one of the most fluid d-men i've ever watched

the blackhawks won the stanley cup

On a dramatic, overtime game winner by the face of the franchise, to cap off an epic six-game series of high-scoring, one-goal games.

:yahoo:

after nearly being eliminated in the first round by a 7 seed, if not for a SH goal with seconds remaining and then an additional 4 minutes of PK in OT (if we go down 3-2 in that series, then the odds are that nashville would have won)

and after being embarrassed in game 1 of the second series, followed by going down 2-0 immediately in game 2.

seriously, i always forget about that. we looked COMPLETELY done when we went down 2-0 in game 2 of the vancouver series. i remember that's when i was watchin an online deef and could hear the announcers talking to each other during commercial breaks, saying stuff like "they are completely paralyzed", "they cant skate", and "i cant believe how lost they look"

and then they went 12-3

it just took us 4 periods to adjust to playing hockey again.

What if we don't win the draft lottery to get Kane? What if we don't lose the draft lottery to get stuck with Barker instead of Ovechkin or Malkin?

Here's a fantastic one: What if Niemi doesn't beat out Crawford on the last day of exhibition season?

i was just watching the highlights of game 2 of the canucks series. that 5-3 goal to make it 2-0 early was definitely the low point of the playoffs. we looked DONE, and not in a "im too close to this team so i overreact when anything negative happens" way. they really looked finished.

sports are weird. it seems like it takes a perfect storm to win a championship, yet each sport has one team do it every single year.

dvr'd the replay of the game from 4 AM on NHLN and watching the whole thing.

i'm glad edzo finally stopped biting his tongue when they called that EMBARRASSING penalty on hossa.that's the one word i kept saying when that happened live. just an embarrassing call.

it was pretty disgusting how the refs clearly wanted to play a factor in the game. i don't mean in favor of philly, but just in general. the 2nd call on pronger was pathetic too. it's game 6 of the stanley cup finals. stop trying to impact the game you morons.

What if Kim Johnsson didn't die? What if Q didn't take out Brouwer and Colin Frasier (it's amazing that he never saw playoff time after the third game against Nashville), what if Q decided to stick with the veteran Huet and tried to let him work out of it? What if Martin Erat didn't make a horrible ill-advised blind pass with time running down in game 5?

Mine aren't as good as yours but still, I could do these all night. It's amazing how it all comes together.

wtf even happened to johnsson? i knew he was hurt, but never knew what happened and was too lazy to ever look it up despite him being gone for months

He had a bad concussion, and I guess he's had issues with concussions in the past. But with this being hockey there was so little information regarding his status, it became a running joke that he had died.

BTW, good old Red Wings fans...I went to a message board to see what they were thinking about the Hawks title, and here are some of the threads on their main page

-chicago area wings fans (talking about how annoyed they are with all the "bandwagon" hawks fans giving them crap)

-Fire sale in Chicago (regarding the offseason, how apparently we are going to be dismantled.)

-Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smythe winner ever?

losers

Oh yeah, and most of them are certain that the entire Hawks team is going to be gutted this offseason and they are going to be a shell of their former selves next season.

Does anyone know if there will be any live online coverage for the parade and rally tomorrow?

ESPN3.com and ESPNchicago.com will both carry live streams.

I am just trying to think of a hypothetical here. If Kane's puck really didn't go into the net, but the Hawks celebrated the same way, would that be a too many men on the ice penalty?

Why? I don't get it man. Your team just won the Stanley Cup, why spend even 5 seconds looking to see what your rival thinks? Their rival fans, of course that's what they're going to do. If the Vikings or Packers won the Super Bowl last year you and Bears fans would be saying how lucky they got or how they won't be as good next year. It's just what happens.
