Huh...I didn't realize this...

Of all the Sharks, only Patrick Marleau consistently executed the plan to beat Niemi by aiming high at him, especially on rebound follow-ups. All seven of those Sharks goals were scored above Niemi's waist. None slid past him on the ice.

I know they have to get under the cap and whatnot, but it's gonna be awfully hard to pull the trigger on trading Byfuglien in the offseason now. I'd love to see him on the line with Kane and Toews during the regular season.

I think it's expected that as the Hawks go further in the playoffs, it becomes tougher to conceive of breaking them up.

Let's just win the damn cup now, and worry about it later 8-)

HAHAHA...from some random guy in the game livechat on prohockeytalk.com...

I can't wait for Dustin to do that post-goal preen in Philly. They'll burn down the team hotel.

well then i guess your whole team would be dead and we would win the cup, so that is okay with me.

i'm not counting out montreal though; they've been too tough with their backs to the wall in the playoffs.

Yes, I'm sure the Blackhawks are shaking in their boots over what Philly fans might do to them if they get excited over a goal.

if philly fans are willing to burn their hotel down then they probably should be concerned.

That would be okay with you? I would find that too horrible to enjoy a championship.

those idiots didn't do anything when montreal was bitch-slapping their beloved broad street bullies, they won't do [expletive] if byfuglien scores and baby-seals their whole team as a goal-dance.

wait i don't get it, they're idiots because they didn't burn down the montreal team hotel? or because they're just idiots.

plus that was after we had already won two straight cups, people weren't as angry and desperate back then.

probably not. i mean, was it that hard for bulls fans to watch another team win after winning 35 championships during the 90s?

the comparison you're searching for desperately is the bad boy pistons, after getting wiped by one of the league's all-time great teams. i would imagine that their fans were just as mad as their players, who refused the handshake.

ok, well regardless of what comparison you want to use, it's really not that bad watching your team lose when you just won. i can tell you that people around here were disappointed that the phillies lost to the yankees last year, but it would have been 100 times worse if they hadn't beaten the rays in 2008.

well, since this team had absolutely no expectations going into the playoffs, i'm sure the fans won't be all that mad if buff waves his dick in their faces.

i fully expect the blackhawks to lose, though.

Is that just your negative Chicago fan side coming out, or are you basing it on something?

Though I don't watch all that much hockey, my sense is that the Sharks are a better team than the Flyers.

the sharks are infinitely better than the flyers, but i think we had a tough time with the ugly, disgustingly boring hockey of nashville and we'll have a tough time playing whatever sport it is that the flyers play.

I don't think Buff will be able to be nearly the force he was in the past two series. I think Vancouver and San Jose both tried to out-Blackhawk the Blackhawks, and failed. Philly won't play like them. Definitely going to be a challenge. And if Montreal does come back, that's going to be a huge layoff between games, and the whole team of destiny impossible to eliminate thing is going to be the key for them.

If Philly wins, what does it look like for game 1? Thursday?

I'm definitely of three minds on this one.

One is that the Flyers are very defensively sound and actually remind me a lot of us except with more traditional defensemen rather than puck-movers. Pronger is a beast and can dominate a series by himself.

Another is that this is a Flyers team that went 41-41 in the regular season and has had a cakewalk schedule in the playoffs, including struggling with a very mediocre and banged-up Boston team.

The third is that, like some others, it's easier to be negative and keep your expectations down, so I figure the Blackhawks will not get any breaks and lose in four or five.

I think it is yet to be decided (at least that is what I thought I heard this morning). I can't figure out if I would rather just play Philly sooner (we've got a lot of momentum after dismantling the Sharks), or if I want Montreal to make it tougher.

if the flyers do finish off montreal, what the blackhawks should do is hit and pressure our defensemen throughout the series. our third pairing played eight minutes on saturday - combined - which means that pronger, carle, timonen and coburn are basically playing half the game. with carter and laperriere back we're deep and forward and those guys have tended to do a lot of the hitting. pronger has a reputation as a big hitter but really, he doesn't hit that much. he has to conserve his energy. boston probably gave us the toughest test because their forwards played more physical. montreal's forwards are pansies.

leighton is not as awful as i thought he was, but he's not good either. the strong defense has allowed him to see all the pucks coming at him and quickly cleared any rebounds.

Does Philly play the trap well? That is what I heard about the Preds coming into the opening round, and it seemed to stagnate the Hawks for a little while.

I believe the Sharks tried it a bit last night, but after about 15 minutes the Hawks seemed to have adjusted.
