I wonder if the Sharks come out of this a bit dispirited. 45 shots on net at home, gave up 0 PP's and they only score 1 goal and lose? The Sharks performance was probably good enough to beat most teams in the league tonight.

I doubt it. They outshot Colorado 51-17, couldn't score and lost on an own goal in Game 3 of that series to fall behind 2-1 but came back to win the next three and the series.

Niemi earned his keep tonight. What a game for him.

Pressure is off a little now for Tuesday. I hope they don't play like it because they can really step on their throats now.

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch this game. I'm planning on rewatching it later, but can you guys tell me how it went? All I got from my brother was that the Sharks dominated the 1st and the Hawks dominated the 3rd.

That's about right. The Blackhawks weren't completely dominated in the first, but San Jose definitely had an advantage, especially with three power plays to none. The second period I thought the Blackhawks had an advantage and they really dominated most of the third.

Niemi was unbelievable, but Blackhawks hit some posts and neither team was particularly good at finishing chances. One of the best games of the year in terms of action and pure skating, both teams moving the puck fluidly.

I thought the Hawks were pretty lucky. Niemi was unbelieveable. Nabokov was ok but the Sharks had way more juicy chances. Chicago also lost too many draws in its own zone.

A few power plays would be nice too. How unusual is it for a team not to get one power play for a whole game?

I'd be much more inclined to say the Hawks dominated the 2nd than the 3rd.

touche. Hadn't thought about that.

Thank God the Hawks won this game. Now I can look forward to watching Habs-Flyers tonight. I still would have watched if the Hawks lost, but it wouldn't have been as enjoyable.

Watching both of those teams, the lack of speed in relation to the Hawks is stunning.

OMFG Niemi!

What a game...SJ was as advertised...those two teams played at a pace we just haven't seen in the first two series.

Ugh....9pm game on Tuesday? That's going to kill me. Might have to trade for the late shift on Wednesday.

Obviously not, but my point was that the Sharks aren't going to be completely devastated because of this one loss. They might lose the series, but it won't be because of this game.

Yeah but when he said that, I thought about it. That was definitely a bigger mind [expletive] for the Sharks than this. First of all they outshot them by 34 shots and lost because of a horrible own goal. Second of all, they had the weight of last years first round loss as well as the previous years. They could have easily folded and lived up to their chokers name, but instead they won 7 of their next 8 games until today.

Wow was that exciting. The entire series won't be like that but if we get a few more games that's about as heart-stopping as it gets. Imagine if both teams start to finish on some of the chances they had.

Niemi won that game. Will be interesting to see the ice time but the 3rd line seemed to be out there a ton and all three of them played pretty well. I thought the 4th line also gave some pretty good minutes. Good energy and solid on the forecheck. 1st line didn't create a bunch until Buff's goal.

It's nice to have a game 2 that's gravy. Obviously you have a chance to step on them 2-0 but getting a split is what you wanted. Given the way they've played on the road I don't expect any letdown although you aren't likely to get that kind of effort out of Niemi again.

Yeah Ill be a lot more relaxed coming into game 2 than I was today. We're already accomplished what we needed to in SJ. That said, by no means do I think a loss is acceptable, just not as deflating. I hope the Hawks don't have the same mindset as I do because it would be so awesome to head to Chicago up 2-0. If you go up 2-0, the pressure is all on SJ to win game 3, and if they do win game 3, you can still get a home split and have a commanding series lead of 3-1.

BTW, it's been over an hour since the game ended and I'm still just in awe at the performance Niemi had tonight. Enough can't be said for what he did did today. I did not think Niemi had that type of performance in him. Big big kudos to Niemi.

I remember when the Blackhawks signed Niemi that a couple of fans who fancy themselves scouts were superexcited over on the Chicago Blackhawks official web site boards. I dismissed them (same as I did when they said Toews was more exciting to them than Kane).

Toews now has 21 points in the playoffs. The team record in a playoff season is 29 by Savvy in 1985. He's also got 15 assists, 5 short of Savvy's team record of 20, again in 1985.

- gold medal

- named best forward at the olympics

- stanley cup

- conn smythe

that would be a pretty spectacular year for 22 year old jonathan toews, and it cold VERY easily happen.

Yeah I think hardcore fans were the only ones that saw Niemi coming. I read an article that was talking about how when Hawks scouts found him he was the backup goaltender on his Finnish team.

i liked this part of the game thread description on the sharks sbnation board.

Prediction: Sharks win 3-2. Goals by Heatley (x2) and Boyle. Brian Campbell gets booed, and everyone realizes that it's pretty dumb.

it seriously is beyond idiotic.
