Colvin and Nady would both be better options than Soriano. I know its probably not a good idea to just give up on a guy like Soriano, considering how much hes making and what hes capabale of doing, but hes just looked lost in the field and at the plate. Same goes for Soto, but we dont have any other option over him. Who knows, maybe someone like Castillo or Clevenger will have a breakout season in the minors like Soto did in '07.

Well, maybe.

Literally anything is better than what we've seen from Soriano "so far this season." That's not the issue.

If Nadys 100% and can throw the ball, theres little doubt in my mind that hed be better than what weve seen from Soriano so far this season.

He'd also be better than what we've seen from Mark Teixeira this season.

but hes just looked lost in the field and at the plate.

Just like he did between his hot streaks in 2007. Or 2008. Or any other season of his career. Soriano always looks like this when he's not on fire.

"So far this season" is 6 [expletive] games, and Soto and Soriano haven't even played in all of them. Talking like the Cubs need to seriously start considering starting Colvin fulltime or counting on [expletive] Castillo is beyond insane.

If we're basing it all on these six games, then we might as well look to get rid of Aram, too. He's not exactly been prize at the plate.

The Cubs lost 2/3 to a very good Atlanta team and 2/3 to a pretty good Reds team. If we lose 4/6 to the Brewers and Astros this week then we can start panicking.

Well he's been not on fire since April of last year. Though not very likely, I think it's ok to talk about replacing him in the lineup. And the Tiexeira comparison is pretty ridiculous.

This isn't Rob Bowen starting while Geovany Soto languishes in AAA. It's not even Ryan Freel starting over Jake Fox. People are going Colvin crazy because of a Scott McClain spring training.

See the thing that gets me with Soriano is ok fine whatever, he cant hit anymore(or hasnt yet) but for the love of [expletive] God quit being a [expletive] about a god damn wall and catch a fly ball. Hell the pop fly he had pop out of his glove he wasnt even near the [expletive] wall, and yet hes still scared of the damn thing. If hes not going to hit then at least catch a fly ball.

If he cant hit anymore, thats not fine. He was ridiculously over paid because of his bat. We knew his defense would be some degree of a liability from the get go. And we have almsot 5 more years of this. 5 [expletive] years. My unborn baby will be getting ready for kindergarten by the time we finally rid ourselves of him. Its not like Kosuke where when his bat inevidibly dissapears sometime in June can still make a difference in right field.

I guess the firdt sign is when we signed him to be a power hitte and RBI producer and he insisted on hitting leadoff. KInd of like if we signed Mariano Rivera to a massive deal and he insisted on pitching the 7th.

The idea that Hendry signed him to bat 5th and Soriano insisted on leading off runs contrary to everything I've ever seen or read about the signing.

The Reds are pretty good?

I don't think they are, but I guess you never know.

We're fine so far. 2-4 after an opening road trip isn't going to make me lose it. Let's see where we are at the end of the month.

Starting pitching has been fantastic. I can't believe our bats will stay this cool. The inability to hold teams in the 8th inning does concern me, but Marmol has been pretty good.

I don't know. I'm not as concerned as what I'm hearing from a lot of people so far.

That's not what happened. At all.

The Reds have been a lot of people's surprise picks, and it's primarily due to their pitching. It should be little surprise then that a team that is struggling offensively early in the season is going to continue looking bad against a good, young rotation that many are picking to break out this year.

Basically what it comes down to is that we can't put so much stock into one game when there are 162 of them. Not saying any one game is meaningless, but the chances of last night's loss costing us a chance at the playoffs are slim to none.

if they miss the playoffs by 1 game then every loss is meaningful. a loss is a loss, no matter if it happens in the first week or the last week of the season.

If you miss the playoffs because of one loss it's not exactly because of one game.
