Since the demand for the Cubs here is no longer enough to get individual game threads, all comments from game threads from 3/28 until the last ST game on Saturday should be here.

Cubs won 2-0 today on a 2 run home run from Soriano. Good to see that.

Soriano had a stolen base today, too. Not sure how I feel about that.

He went 3 for 3, and the CUBS got 6 hits all day.

Carlos Silva with another scoreless outing today. What is this world coming to ????

Don't worry Fred, fake baseball will be over soon. The world of Soriano stealing bases and Silva pitching scoreless baseball will be a memory by next week.

This almost sounds like an April Fool's joke.

Colvin works a count to 3-1, then drives a triple to center. Almost got that elusive first walk. Too bad.

I prefer a triple to a walk ever day of the week. He is absolutely on fire at the moment, and that ball was smoked over the CF's head.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. He is playing out of his mind this spring. Still, I can't help getting a little excited every time he works a 3-0 or 3-1 count. It would be nice to see him add "base on balls' to his sparkling spring resume.

Edit: FUKUBOMB!!

I know Colvin has yet to succeed in MLB regular season baseball, but even if he performs at 70% of the level hes at right now and in the meantime learns how to take walks, we're talking about a .800+ OPS OFer with good defense. It will be interesting to see what Lou does if Kosuke goes into a 2008-like slump and Colvin continues to hit.

I'm not sure I buy it. I'm sure he's had a great spring but once the season starts and pitchers aren't working on perfecting their stuff and are more concerned with getting outs and winning games, if Colvin keeps up his insane BABIP, pitchers will stop pitching to him. And when they do that, will Colvin actually take a walk, something he hasn't done all spring?

While I largely agree with you, I must add that in the games I have followed this spring, Colvin has done a good job of working counts. He hasn't drawn a single walk, but he does seem willing to take pitches in order to place himself in a favorable position to get a hittable pitch. I realize this is purely anecdotal evidence (to the extent that it is evidence at all), but I am reluctantly finding myself in the "Maybe Colvin is For Real" camp. That BABIP is tough to shrug off, though.

Even if Colvin ends up a .280/.325-.350/.425-.450 15-20 home run type of guy, its better than paying a multi year contract to a similar player. Nothing against Marlon Byrd, whose had a solid spring and I know its hindsight, but if we knew then what we know now, we could have had a solid out field depth chart without him and saved a nice chunk of change.

wow, Castro worked the count to 3-0, then on a 3-1 pitch he freaking smashed one about 400 ft into center for a triple.

And with that, Spring Training 2010 ends on a high note. Final Record: 18-12.
