Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Royals have signed Rick Ankiel to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with a $6 million mutual option for 2011.

It's quite impressive that agent Scott Boras was able to convince the Royals to add such a high-salary second-year mutual option. Ankiel has provided baseball with a few major storylines over the years, both positive and negative, but he hit just .231 with a .285 on-base percentage last season.

Dumb deal for the Royals but good for us that he's off the market.

The Royals are one of the dumbest [expletive] franchises in baseball. For 2010 they will be paying Guillen (12), Meche (12), Farnsworth (4.5), Betancourt (3), Kendall (2.25), Podsednik (1.75), and Ankiel (3.25) a total of $38.75 million.

Why must be I be a secondary fan of this team? I guess it's cause I live here, but still...Being a #1 fan of the Cubs and my #2 team is the Royals...it's just not fair.

There are always mid-season trades...

Cubs fans, rejoice. The stench of Rick Ankiel Strikes Out will be avoiding your city and polluting KC. I'm just happy the Cardinals didn't try bringing him back. I probably would've been banned in real life for saying that he isn't any good.

Yeah, it's pretty nice. No Wrigley though.

Don't worry Cubs fans! He just needs to be traded to the Pirates sometime this year before AL pitchers figure out how to strike him out like it's whiffle ball. Then he can get shipped over to you in 2011! There's still time guys!

Man, Dick just struck out twice more while I was typing this.
