would have been nice to have beaten canada in one event at these games, one [expletive] event!!!!!!!! their country is the size of rhode island and we can't beat them in one [expletive] event.

Bobsled?

yeah, whatever, they still beat us at everything else. [expletive] em.

now when and where are the summer games and can we please [expletive] win the most gold medals at that one? [expletive] [expletive] [expletive]

Didn't we win 9 golds? Did Canada not participate in those 9 events?

sully lives in a very black and white sports world

China's probably taking over the Summer games for the foreseeable future. They're pathological about it.

This reminds me that the US, collectively, will never feel about a sporting event like the Canadians do about this gold or most of the rest of the world does about the World Cup.

Yeah after seeing the replay, it was a slow shot that Miller decided to redirect behind him instead of falling on it, which I thought was weird because there were 2 Canadians there where he sent the puck. And the Canadians kept the possession and scored. Blah.

Oh well that was a fantastic tournament and while I'm disapointed to come so far, we pretty much played even with the Canadians or possibly slightly better than them on their home ice in a tournament that meant so much to the country. It's not the same as a gold, but Agghhhh, I tried this sucks.

The Americans weren't favored to medal. The U.S. Hockey brains completely turned over the roster from the Tkachuk/Modano/Chelios crew to the Parise/Kane/Miller crew, and they played pretty damn well. This bodes well for 2014.

yup. going into the olympics, picking the US for the bronze was considered a bold pick.

not only did they win a silver, but you could argue that they had the best tournament of any team.

Maybe. The games won't be held in China for the forseeable future either.

yeah, china won't be there, it will probably be the americans winning the most medals again, but the british coming out of nowhere to win more golds than anyone.

yeah we put much more energy into our sports of choice.

Still, I think we've done well in the Olympics of late.

It's hard for me to even imagine a time when we would seriously challenge in the World Cup.

Dictatorships are good for producing Olympians in fringe sports no one really gives a [expletive] about. And then you've got 1.3 billion people to choose from.

The U.S. usually couldn't top the USSR when it came to the Olympics and now you're talking about a much, much larger country.

I give Burke and Wilson credit for going with a younger team. I think Parise, Miller and Kane were no brainers, but I could see some hockey people taking Tkachuk over someone like Dustin Brown

Look at it this way, the Hawks stay healthy, played pretty well and now has a couple of deals to rest up. That's is simply fantastic news.

Now, I kinda of expect Toews/Seabrook/Keith to get lightly booed at the first home game, but they won't last long.

Did they start putting in that effort recently? Look at the trend:

Barcelona - 54 medals, 16 gold

Atlanta - 50 medals, 16 gold

Sydney - 59 medals, 28 gold

Athens - 63 medals, 32 gold

BEIJING - 100 medals, 51 gold

On the other hand, the US has put up 100 medals 4 of the last 5 games and has never been below 36 golds in that span.

I would swear I heard an undercurrent of booing for Kane.

i heard it too. i'd take is as a compliment. he gave them plenty reason to boo him after raping them in game 6 last year.

Boy that would be weird. Blackhawk fans booing Toews? I'm going to wait to see it before I believe it. We've got a championship to win now.

The biggest factors in determining Olympic success is population and per capita GDP. Even in 2004 China was still in earlyish stages of becoming a 1st world nation. They probably ramped it way up for Beijing but I would expect them to be right at the top in future Olympics.

I don't know when they made their summer push, but they made their plan to increase their winter medal totals in something like 2002

USA looked flat gassed, Kane, Suter and Parasi in particular. When fatigue kicks in, and there's already a talent gap, it was only a matter of time.

Yeah it looked like the US's strategy in OT was to unleash prayers from just inside the blue lines hoping for a soft rebound/goal from Luongo. Not a bad strategy considering he had a hard time controlling the puck. Still with all that open ice you'd hope for some better opportunities.

When Kane broke in 2 v 2 and started stickhandling, I thought he would generate a chance, but you could tell he was beat by the way he lost the puck.

Credit to him, though. Without him hustling back to deny clear chances on Miller, we probably don't see OT.

The US played flat hard for 60+., harder than Canada IMO. They were bound to just get tired at some point. Its a trend I see our NT on the soccer side too, FWIW.
