what moves do we need to make to be more than a division contender?

Here is what I would do:

In CF:

forget about Marlon Byrd and trade for Brett Gardener; gives us speed and lock down defense in two outfield positions.

Infield:

Id use the money saved on not signing byrd to sign Tejada to play second base and when Aramis and or D Lee gets hurt he fills in at third and first. Its pretty much a given that he wont play short next year with who ever he signs with so he this should be no problem. I'm guessing that the 46 doubles he had last year knocks in a lot more runs with our team then with that junk the astros ran out there last year. Plus he has to be better playing second than at short right?

Bullpen:

Just sign Matt Capps already.

Bench:

??????

There's no need to sign anyone for the bullpen.

If they trade something of value for Brett Gardner when they have Fuld in the system, I quit.

I think they need to stand pat in CF and relief unless something great comes along. And I'm ok with Jeff Baker at 2nd until Castro moves Theriot over there.

I think most here would agree with this sentiment, but unfortunately we all know Hendry is poised to sign Capps to something like 2 yr 4 mill per just to piss Cubs fans.

I won't quit if they do, but I don't think the Cubs will trade for Gardner since Fuld is a better player.

If we are going to target a Yankee OF, why not Swisher? Keep Kosuke in CF and move Swisher to RF. Sure the defense wouldn't be as good, but Swisher's bat would be a nice addition to our lineup. It was rumored earlier in the offseason that they Yankees wanted to move him IIRC. He's had a OPS over .830 3 of the last 4 years playing in the AL.

I would mos def be on board with Swisher. He's one of my favorite non-Cubs.
