Week 10: Bears @ 49ers (Thurs, 7:20 PM NFLN, WPWR)

This is the bottom line on Cutler. He's going to throw a lot of picks. That's the type of QB he is. He's extremely confident in his arm, to the point where he thinks he can make any throw. We all know this. I don't think this is ever going to change. He's not the type of QB you can throw 35-40+ times with, because he'll throw a ton of picks. However, we're kind of stuck right now. Cutler is 7-13 in his career when he throws 35+ passes (1-5 this year). Without a decent running game, we're being forced to throw a ton, because you can't run the ball three times for two yards per carry and then punt the ball every drive. I have no problem putting a lot of the blame on Cutler, but this is exactly the type of QB he is, and he would limit his picks greatly with a competent running game.

Last year was his best year and he had 35+ attempts in 10 of 16 games and over 30 in 13.

Wouldn't it be kind of obvious that when a QB throws a lot of passes he probably doesn't have a good record? Hrm.

A large majority of the time but there are the cases like Brees, Peyton and Brady.

Ah, I suppose so. But, although their win differential might not be nearly as drastic as Cutler's, I'd be willing to bet that their career records are significantly worse when then throw 35+ as opposed to when they don't.

Considering those three throw 35+ times most games and win most of their games, no. I do agree with the point though. Except for a few outlier cases throwing 35+ times normally means your team is down a lot.

I was curious and looked it up. Brady is 11-1 the last three seasons, Peyton 16-4, Brees 11-15 (most came last two seasons when they were under .500).

From Mike Sando

Referee Ron Winter and crew called 24 penalties, assessing 19, during the 49ers' 10-6 victory over the Bears on Thursday night.

Did they miss a flagrant one?

"I haven't seen any other columnists mention it, and it's extremely blatant," shane_esu writes in the comments section of this item.

Indeed, at the 2:48 mark of this NFL.com video, the Bears' Mark Anderson appears to punch the 49ers' Chilo Rachal in the head area. Rachal was trying to pull Anderson from a pileup following Frank Gore's fumble. Anderson took offense. He stood up, wheeled around and threw the punch. Niners tackle Adam Snyder saw the punch and appealed to an official, but there was no call.

It's important to give Anderson the benefit of the doubt here. We know the Bears' defensive linemen hold themselves to a higher standard. None of them had punched an opposing player in four days.

It's just one more example of how mindless they are out there. It's no wonder they can't figure out how to look like a pro team. They're too busy being frustrated and angry and then they lash out at someone.

Well the officials missed the PI call on one of Cutlers picks too, so it's not like they were eagle eyes out there.

I didn't post it so much for the missed call as for letting you guys know there will likely be a major fine coming and possible suspension.

They can cut him for all I care. Frankly, outside of Tommie when he feels like playing, and Alex Brown on the 2 or 3 days a year where he decides to show up, I wouldn't mind seeing brand new faces as soon as possible up & down that line.

Another post about a Bears incident. This one is on Harris in the Cardinals game. Cardinals player was faking being hurt which I thought was obvious seeing the replay. He saw the ref throw the flag and then immediately started acting like he was in pain. Anyways Fitz's comments confirm it.

Mike Sando: Thanks, Cal. Very good link. I'll provide a partial transcript of the conversation involving pass-rusher Bertrand Berry and receiver Larry Fitzgerald, relating to Tommie Harris' punch against Lutui during the Cardinals' victory over the Bears in Week 9.

Berry: Let me just say this, the Academy Award goes to ... because if you notice, it was like a 2- or 3-second delay before he actually rolled over (supposedly in pain). A little gamesmanship went on.

Fitzgerald: It was so funny, Deuce was on the ground holding his face and he was like, 'Fitz, what is going on? Are they throwing him out?' It was hilarious.

Who knows what will happen....I mean apparently jokingly offering a dollar bill to an official is a greater offense than punching a guy in the head if you go by the fines.
