The Indians have dismissed manager Eric Wedge and his entire coaching staff, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince. A press conference is scheduled for 12:30pm CST. Castrovince says Wedge and his staff were informed Tuesday night, and will finish out the season. Castrovince believes the new manager will be an external hire. His stats on Wedge:

In seven seasons, Wedge has compiled a record of 560-568, with one division title and playoff appearance in 2007, when the Indians finished one win shy of the World Series. Among the 39 full-time managers in Tribe history, Wedge ranks fifth in wins, third in losses and fourth in games managed.

By my count, that make this the list of longest tenured managers:

Bobby Cox 1990

Tony LaRussa 1996

Mike Scioscia 2000

Ron Gardenhire 2002

Ozzie Guillen 2004

Terry Francona 2004

Charlie Manuel 2005

And Cox will be gone after next season

Tony could be on the move

Scioscia isn't going anywhere soon

Gardenhire might be on the edge if things don't get better

the fact that Guillen is still a manager is hilarious

The last two aren't going anywhere

Really? I mean, I don't necessarily want to disagree, I'm just curious as to why you think this. He's won 94-90-92-83-96-79-88-82(so far) games and the Twins are only two games out of first place currently. All this in Minnesota, doesn't seem like a reason to be on the edge.

They should just go with a player manager or recreate that terrible movie "Eddie" and let a fan coach the team the rest of the year.

Thanks a bunch. I just about recovered from the last time I was subjected to that horror.

Whoopi as an NBA coach? Sure, I'll bite. Moving the Knicks to St. Louis? In what alternate reality would that ever be possible?

If Gardenhire gets let go we need to convince Piniella to retire.

I don't mean this year or even next, but if they don't make the next step towards the playoffs/WS, I could see the front office firing him in order to convince the fans they are "trying," especially after losing Mauer. That, and his contract only goes till 2011, so he may decide he wants to go somewhere else.

I'm surprised Shapiro is still around. They've made the playoffs once in the last 7 or 8 years.

The perception over the last couple of years is that the Indians have had the talent, but not performed on the field.
