Tirico just said Vinatieri (spelling?) will be in the Hall of Fame. I agree he should be but if he does he would be the first kicker/punter in the Hall of Fame.

It's a little of topic but I think it is ridiculous kicker's and punter's don't get in the Hall of Fame.

Jan Stenerud and George Blanda are in the hall as kickers. Ray Guy is in the hall as a punter (wait, he's not? wtf?). Either way though, I agree that more K's and P's should be in there (not Vinatieri though, he's a little overrated from being on an awesome team). If you don't play an offensive skill position though, the NFL HOF is really hard to get into.

Yeah, punters and kickers should be in - even if sparingly. Vinatieri should be there when he retires and Ray Guy should have already been there.

I agree with guys who are pretty much solely returners not being in though. If they were a great player worthy of being in they would have started as a WR, RB, CB ... etc. Returning is a skill but if Randy Moss wanted to be a returner I'm pretty sure he would be better than anyone else ever has been. Moss is just an example.

NFL kickers aren't really defined by how good they are but by how many big kicks they have. Vinatieri has probably had more "big game" game winning kicks than any kicker. Plus he played in Boston so he'll probably make the hall of fame based off of those things alone.

Blanda threw for 25000+ yards and wasn't that great of a kicker. He's in because he did both for a very long time.

Jan Stenerud I had never hearde of and after looking him up I don't understand why he is in over all others.

Right, I'm just saying from a value standpoint he's the Jim Rice of kickers.

Yep, I was just showing that kickers have made it in.

Kicking could be the ultimate clutch position in sports. You are consistently called on to win the game with one kick and if you miss everyone blames you for the loss. Due to this a kicker who consistently makes game winning kicks, especially in the playoffs when the miss can end a season, should be strongly considered for the Hall of Fame (assuming he isn't terrible the rest of the time).

I forgot about Stenerud and Blanda. If you support them being in, though, I think you have to support Vinatieri - if for no other reason than great consistency.

Vinatieri is 15th all-time in field goal % and has been kicking longer than any other kicker ahead of him other than Jason Hanson, Matt Stover and John Carney - three kickers I'd argue could also eventually be in. Stenerud had a career FG% of 66.8% and Blanda had a career FG% of 52.4%. Vinatieri is .1% behind Blanda in extra point % and a few percentage points ahead of Stenerud.

He's also 15th all-time in points scored - with mostly guys I'd have in consideration for the hall of fame ahead of him (including Blanda and Stenerud).

The Anderson's are the two that immediately jump to my mind.

Definitely. Both of them are 1-2 in points scored all-time. Plus, both are only 1-2 percentage points behind Vinatieri in career FG accuracy. Both should be in, along with the three names I mentioned above.

I'm not going to argue Stenerud and Blanda belong in there because it doesn't look like they should, at least not compared to today's better kickers. Vinatieri's led the league twice in FG% and once in points and he's in the middle of active kickers in FG%. He'll be up there in career points, but his stats don't scream HOF to me so he's going to get in on his clutch kicks if he does. The Anderson/sen's definitely belong though.

Oh, and 9 minute TD drives are awesome. Hold on Miami.

Don't see many 9 minute TD drives.

That was very impressive by Miami. The Colts need Bob Sanders.

All that effort and bang, Colts are almost to the red zone in 30 seconds.

He's been consistently at a very high level, though. Most of the kickers around him in FG% have been doing it for 2-5 years, while Vinatieri has been doing it since 1996. He may not be a sure fire, first ballot hall of famer (he has a lower career FG% than I originally thought) but I think he should get in - similarly to guys like Carney, Stover and Hanson.

Haha, oh the times I've seen him do that against the Titans. That's the joy of playing against Peyton.

What just happened? That was the worst clock management I've ever seen. How do you get the ball back with 3 and a half minutes to go and come away with 2 plays for 6 yards and a timeout before the 2 minute warning?

Enjoy Cowboys fans.

"We were the best team in the NFL this year"

Haha, I promise this was most Cub fans last year when the Dodgers swept the Cubs last year. :D
