FanGraphs article on Lilly (He's been really good)

FanGraphs posted a blog about Ted Lilly today and I found it pretty interesting. Here's an excerpt or two:

Last night Ted Lilly won a meaningless game for the Cubs. I like looking at players who succeed in an extreme or abnormal manner and Lilly is such a player.

...

Over the last three years Lilly is second to only Jered Weaver with the highest FB% (48%) and the lowest GB% percentage (33%). He has always gotten a good number of strikeouts and given up lots of fly balls, but since 2007 (his time as a Cub) he has drastically cut down on his walks making him a quite valuable pitcher over that time.

In the 2007 off-season he signed a four year (2007 to 2010) 40 million dollars contact with the Cubs. He has already provided those 40 million dollars worth of value, making the rest of this year and all of next gravy.

We certainly didn't get our money's worth last post-season.

Harden was the best pitcher in baseball after becoming a Cub.

Dempster had a much better year than Lilly.

Zambrano had a similar year but gained a lot of value by being a competent hitter.

It woulda been pretty damn crazy to have Lilly pitch in front of any of them.

I must have missed the part where I said he should have started in front of those 3.

Oh, so you were just making a pissy comment for the sake of being pessimistic. Gotcha.

How is it being pessimistic by pointing out that we were swept out of the playoffs last year and Lilly didn't even get the opportunity to pitch 1 game? As far as making a pissy comment, I'm just trying to fit in around here.

I don't wanna start a argument, but yeah it was CC. I get what you were saying however.
