The wife, kid and I are going to Jackson either today or tomorrow to root on the Smokies!

Hopefully Sandberg lasts more than 2 innings, or maybe not. I can't decide.

Just a reminder that this final series for the Hawks will have video coverage on their web site. Today, Austin Kirk should piggy back with McNutt. Tomorrow Dae-Eun Rhee will be starting. And expect Brooks Raley to throw sometime on Sunday.

I believe Cashner is starting tomorrow.

Hey Raisin (or anyone), I'm curious what the latest velo reports have been on McNutt. Haven't been following of late. I know college guns had him in the mid-90's.

No idea, sorry.

Holy crap, Hak-Ju Lee is fast.

back and forth for tennessee. they went up 1-0 on a castro ground out, but gave up 3 in the 4th. in the 6th they have come back with 3 runs - m. smith homer, lalli double, colvin RBI single, colvin SB, castro triple (second triple in as many nights). minor league baseball gamecast makes it look like both triples were near home runs, but who knows if that's where the balls landed or rolled to.

bibens-dirkx had a fairly poor outing for peoria. i had assumed he would start in game 1 of their playoff series - not sure if that will happen or not (don't know when the series starts and if he'll have enough rest by then).

the rout is on in jackson! colvin caps a 10-run 6th with a grand slam.... he's 3-4 with 3 runs, 5 RBI and a double short of the cycle. castro is 3-4 with a triple.

Castro now with a .297/.354/.396/.750 line in 110 PA's for Tennessee, that's better than he was hitting with Daytona. He's got a 9/9 K/BB and is 4/4 SB too.

At this point, I think he totally deserves to be a top 50 prospect. In fact, it's not going to totally shock me if he winds up ranked higher than Vitters honestly.

Their playoff series starts next Wednesday so ABD is in line to start Game 1.

Julio Pena made his FSL debut yesterday (skipping Boise and Peoria) and went 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

yeah i'm strongly considering him putting him at the top of my list after this season. i really thought they were rushing him too much with the promotion to daytona, but he handled himself nicely there and has continued to hold his own against much older competition at tennessee. i'd like to see some more scouting reports of his defense, but there's not much to dislike about castro at this point.

i have no idea what to think of colvin. he's a good athlete who can probably be a plus fielder in the corners, he's pretty good pop and can hit LHP, has been great in the second half of this season. on the downside, he still doesn't walk enough and this is his third crack at AA. he's only 23 (24 tomorrow) and it is too early to write him off, but i still have a hard time seeing him as an everyday player.

tennessee is up 10 now. chattanooga lost so the smokies should be up 1 on west tenn and 2 on chattanooga after tonight, with each team having 3 games left to play. that means that if the smokies win 2 out of their last 3 they will win the division, if they win 1 then they will finish tied with west tenn and chattanooga will need to have won all 3 of their games to be tied.

Interesting line for 32nd rounder Ken McNutt at Boise: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO, 0 HR, 1.33 ERA

He looked good. Kirk not as much.

so who starts game 2 for peoria? right now, it looks like they have it set up for antigua to pitch tomorrow night and archer sunday night, which would put them on four days rest for starts in games 2 and 3.

With the season ending on Monday, they could play around with Monday's game (Aaron Shafer should start that one) and set up the red-hot Shafer to start on Wednesday with ABD on Thursday on 5 days rest.

forgot about shafer... you're right, with the roll he is on it will probably be shafer and ABD in the first two games of the series, then i would guess archer. antigua is a nice weapon to have if any of them struggle.

Of course I don't know if they care that much about setting up rotation when it comes to minor league playoffs.

I told you guys Castro over Cashner. :D

So who does Castro project to be most like?

Edgar Renteria? Someone else? or is it too soon?

I really want to learn more about McNutt. It feels like if there's a diamond in the rough from the late rounds of this draft, that McNutt would be a top candidate. Supposedly has gas, but haven't followed that closely this summer to know if he has been throwing gas.
