Generally speaking when both are hitting how I expect them to I think Theriot works a better count, is more versatile in terms of hitting the balls the other way/bunts, draws more walks and yes he does have a higher average. Soriano's power potential obviously makes up for his deficiencies in areas that Theriot is better. But as far a better hitter, with how I view the term, it's Theriot for me

Baseball Reference has Soriano's Avg Walks for a 162 game season at 41 and Theriot at 58.

 

 

If Soriano does on average see more pitches, I definitely haven't seen that stat and apologize for that. I guess it is how you define the word hitting. I think offensively they both can and should be damn fine players for very different reasons
