What happens when a kid is late to a practice, he runs. What happens when he gets a technical in basketball, he runs in practice. Interview any person and they will say they hate running becuase so and so made me running for 30 minutes before or after practice, usually in a some eliptical manner (football field/bb court)

More hyperbole please.

Here I'll start. Interview any person and they will say they hate running because they never played sports at all, and are generally physically inactive. Wait, you mean not everyone falls in that category? Interesting.

This world's was a disgrace for USA, we need to cancel mamby pamby sports like football and basketball and take our crown as the world's best in T+F.

First eliminate the foreign track scholarships to U.S. schools.

2nd. eliminate spring practice for football and encourage the kids to actually get in shape by going out for a spring sport.

3rd. discourage all other coaches using running as a penalty/punishment for anything, this gives the act of running a negative connotation.

hahahahahahaha

Please tell me you're joking.

Yes, I was. There always should be sport where 60 kids do stand around for and scratch their crotch while 11 play. I'll give basketball its kudos it is good for getting HJ, LJ and Trpl J in shape.

The rest I am dead serious, especially number 3

After a certain age, most kids don't care for running because it's running, not because some coach is putting a negative spin on it.

Again, they hate running because it's running. I know a lot of people who run regularly to stay in shape. They don't do it because they enjoy it. They do it because they want to stay in shape. Most of them will tell you they don't enjoy it one bit.

You know what else makes people hate running? Seeing how people look when they're running. "Oh hey, that guy's been running for 30 minutes. His face is red, he's sweating profusely, and he looks like he's not enjoying it at all. Sign me up for that!!!"

i always preferred BJ's to HJ's, but i'm intrigued by this LJ business.

edit: holy [expletive] beaten.

I was this close to making this post today. My family would have been so disgraced.

Wow, terrible argument for running by HCCF. I ran XC and track in high school and still run quite a bit today. The reason people don't run is because they're a bunch of lazy fat-asses or they prefer to be doing something while they're running. Like shooting a basketball or catching a football. I always loved running, but it certainly isn't something everybody can do well or even enjoy. It's not about whose tougher or crazier or anything. Different strokes for different folks.

Everyone LOVED getting hit on the back of the hand with a ruler until Catholic school nuns started doing it as punishment. That's why everyone hates it now.

Just a thought, but perhaps coaches started using running as punishment because they know a lot of people don't like it.

This. Most people don't mind running while in the act of playing a sport. A lot of people just don't enjoy it on it's own.

And yes, there are a bunch of lazy fat-asses that don't want to do anything. No one's going to argue that.

There are more than those three possibilities, though.

i don't run because my knees suck. when i had better knees, i didn't love running but i did it sometimes to keep in shape, especially when i wasn't swimming.

the argument that people don't like running because it's used as a punishment is silly.

In the men's 200, Wallace Spearmon of the U.S. pulled away in the last 70 meters to win in 20.57 seconds. Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis placed second in 20.90, and American Shawn Crawford was third in 21.04.

20.57? i think usain bolt walks the 200 in that speed.

Just curious, hcf...when your track athletes are late for practice, do you make them play football?

Medicine ball throws or low squat jumping jacks that burns the legs, but my student athletes don't come to practice late without a very good excuse. When we practice in the fall it is at 6:00 AM and they know if they aren't awake we will run by and wake them along with everyone on the block.

With wrestling we put them in the middle and everyone from 103 to heavyweight has one minute of take-downs on them

That sounds even ruder than wearing a hat in public

With wristling we put them in the middle and everyone from 103 to heavyweight has one minute of take-downs on them

That sounds more dangerous than throwing rocks at a poisonous snake.

Tyson Gay ties Usain Bolt's WR 100m time from the Olympics. Unfortunately, Bolt improved upon that by .11 seconds since then...

(also, great URL... gay 100. Sounds like an event during pride week.)

I remember when we talked about breaking 3.40 for the 1500 and now if you don't break 3.35 you aren't in the race
