The Nationals acquired former major leaguers Daryle Ward and Norris Hopper from the White Sox today, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. The players go from Chicago's Triple A team to Washington's.

Ward, 34, played 11 big league seasons, most recently with last year's Cubs. Hopper, 30, spent parts of three seasons with the Reds, but hasn't appeared in the majors this year.

The Nats wanted to eliminate all other teams from the "Worst Franchise in Professional Sports" category.

I was just thinking this morning that the Nationals could surely use a few more outfielders.

Funny, the only question that occurs to me about the Nats is whether they've signed Strasburg or not yet. other than that, I could potential fail to remember they exist.

Well, trading for Morgan and Ward is probably the Nats way of telling Strasberg how serious they really are about being competitive.
