A nice fluff piece on Hak-Ju Lee and Jose Valdez. It tells what kind of players they are. Valdez is compared to Juan Pierre - uh oh. Here are a few bits:

This is what Baseball Prospectus recently wrote about Lee: "Few teams are more aggressive scouting the Pacific Rim than the Cubs are, and Lee was seen as the big catch last year. ... Lee's size and athleticism separates him from most Asian signees, and he's already among the best prospects in the Cubs' system."

"Hak-Ju Lee is very polished at a young age," he said. "... He looks very comfortable, and he knows he's going to be at the top of the order so he knows his role."

"Jose has come a long way," Medina said. "He was a right-handed hitter until about 18 months ago, and that's when he started switch-hitting. ... Now, about 80 percent of his at-bats are coming from the left side, and he's been doing what we've asked of him."

"If you look at (Dodgers outfielder) Juan Pierre, he's probably the person that reminds me the most of Valdez from the left side," Kopitzke said. "He's not going to hit the ball out of the park, but he can hit a double and use his speed to get around the bases and just create havoc in general."

"Those two guys," Medina said, "even if they get a walk, there's a 50-50 chance they're going to be in scoring position pretty quick."

Here's hoping Leverton and Bristow can continue their semi-roll.

On a side note, those fluff pieces are funny. The bromance thing on Lee/Watkins was funny.

To be honest, on Bristow, I wasn't expecting much this year and was viewing 2010 as the big year for him. Just figured this would be a "work his way back" year.

Leverton's success of late has been weird. He's sporting a 2.38 ERA in his last 10 starts but has a 1.5 WHIP during that time. Guess the groundballs help.

I agree on Bristow and am glad to see he might be ending the season on a high note instead of tiring like so many pitchers who are coming off surgery.

Mick's talking to Hendry on the Radio right now with Cashner pitching.

Talking through how the Pirates deal happened. Nothing real groundbreaking, but interesting that Hendry is there watching Cashner.

Cashner wipes out his last two hitters of the night on K's while Hendry watches. Nice.

Cashner's line:

Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Cashner 5.0 1 1 0 1 6 0 0.91

Geo is 1-2 with a walk

btw - he's probably there watching Geo primarily. :)

The run scored tonight was unearned, so Cashner's got a 16 inning streak now without an unearned run.

Adduci lost an easy pop-fly ball in the sky and it falls in for a double.

And another K to close out the inning.

My favorite part of Cashner's night: 88 pitches. 61 strikes. :D

He's being pinch-hit for, so his night is officially done.

Tony Thomas out stealing at second base without being tagged. Kudos to someone not listening to the broadcast who can tell me why. :)

Any chance Cashner gets called up in September? If not I expect him to get a good look in ST next year and at the very least be up sometime in early summer next year.

I wouldn't have thought so...but I'm changing my mind about it.

Maestri strikes out his first batter on a "wicked" curve.
