Might not be a bad idea to have those righties if we're facing the Phillies in the playoffs with their contingent of lefty starters.

I'd like Ross and think he'd be useful, but there's no room for him if Reed's going to be back in a couple weeks.

The Marlins arent looking to sell. They're looking to move Hermida, as they were all off season.

You're probably right, but Ross' name was brought up and I responded. They have no real reason to trade him.

I'd still kind of like Hermida for cheap.

From Bruce's blog this morning:

With Hermida, the Cubs like him, but I'm told by Cubs people this morning that the Marlins want way too much in the way of prospects.

That settles that then. Thanks CCP.

which is hilarious because his value is fading extremely fast...i guess they are banking on him maturing next season

I think from their perspective, they don't have to trade him, so why sell extremely low.

If somebody will give decent value it makes sense for them to trade him, otherwise he's not getting paid a ton and he might hit an extended hot streak to peak his value.

That's a bit surprising that the Marlins are still asking so much for Hermida. He's been extremely mediocre over his last 1000 PAs.

I was for getting Hermida in the offseason as a buy low alternative, but now, the Cubs DON'T need Hermida and I would prefer they move on.

I guess they figure they have nothing to lose. He costs next to nothing, so if they can get something good in return, go for it, if not whatever.

If he didn't cost a lot in terms of prospects, he'd still be a nice guy to pick up. If nothing else he's a decent bat off the bench. If he develops then he becomes a good trading chip or allows us to move one of our OFs if the interest is there.

I wonder if we do still pull off a deal for a cheap middle infielder or another bat in general today. Crazy as it sounds, Fontenot chose the worst time to have a great game yesterday and now theres no time to decide if it was a fluke or hes heating up. I guess theres always the non waiver deadline.

The way I see it, it was stated that Hendry had about 3 million to work with, and Grabow probably has 1 mil left of his 2.something mil and Gorz Im assuming is league min, so Jimbo as about 1.5-1.75 mil left and we all know he likes to spend every last penny.
