wow 42-23 with Koyie starting.

I'm confused as to how that's possible, unless it's over the last three seasons. Cubs.com and Baseball Reference both have Hill appearing in a total of 44 games this year.

It's over his career. He is 27-17 this year

I think that'd be about the same, if not better with Soto starting.

Well I figured it wouldn't be that good just with losing Soto's bat for Hill's. Although Soto hasn't been that great but still better than Koyie at the plate.

I don't really care if he can hit out of a paper bag if we're 42-23 with him starting. You're a fool to not look up from the spreadsheet and see that Koyie is making a difference in games in other ways than his bat.

He calls good games, plays pretty good defense, and pitchers seem to like him. He's a damn good backup catcher. I know he can't hit worth a damn but he is definitely good enough for a backup.

Correlation does not equal causation. It's that same kind of thinking that made people think Dusty Baker was a good manager because the Giants improved by 31 games in his first season.

Plus, considering that Soto caught for us in September 07, and all of 08, I have to assume that his W/L record as the started is just as good.

We've had good teams, that has a whole lot to do with it.

I was at this game \:D/ :yahoo: It was so nice to just be able to relax after the first inning. I was also at the game last year when the Cubs won 11-5.

If I get to the game in time for the gates to open, will I be able to catch Astros batting practice? I'll be in the bleachers.

Cubs usually take BP first, so if you enter the park at the earliest opportunity, you should see both teams take BP.

Does it normally open two hours before game time?

Two hours before first pitch, always.

Ok, well today I got in around noon and I saw no batting practice (I plan to get there around 11:15 tomorrow). Someone mentioned the Astros didn't take BP because it was a day game after a night game, but hopefully I'll be able to get some BP home runs this time.

Catcher's ERA.

Quite possibly the most important stat in the world.
