What round was he drafted in?

signed out of the dominican in october 2006, pitched in DSL in 2007 (i assume), AZL in 2008, now northwest league.

Ahh didnt realize he was a Dominican sign. Im assuming hard thrower?

from our minor league wiki:

More of a "crafty" lefty with a plus-sinker and breaking ball and excellent control.

that was taken from an article by azphil, who said antigua looked like one of the best latin prospects at extended spring training last season. it'd be nice to know how hard he throws. listening to the game, it sounded like he had a pretty sharp breaking ball that was giving eugene hitters a lot of problems.

BBF poster is friends with a Baltimore scout who often is assigned to Cub prospects, and who often shares views. Some time ago he touched on Antigua, and the report is so old that I don't remember it well, and it may no longer be relevant even if I did.

But the way I remember it is that he was more interesting for his control, offspeed pitches (breaking ball and change), and control rather than velocity. But I think the idea also was that his fastball was OK, touched 90 or 91, and he was young enough that he might add more later.

So I think he isn't/won't be really fast, but that his fastball might be good enough to throw for strikes, get outs, and put him into putaway counts.

if he's a lefty with command, good sink and a sweeping breaking ball, at the very least you have yourself a prime LOOGY candidate.

In the BA chat on the Cubs top 30 prospect list, Jim Callis said the player he was most likely to regret not ranking in the Cubs top 30 was Jeffry Antigua.

Q: Navin from Pasadena, CA asks:

You mentioned Jeffry Antigua. What is his repertoire like and will he have a chance at full season this year?

A: Jim Callis: Antigua has a fastball that touches 92 mph, a solid changeup and a curveball that should be average. He also has very good feel for pitching and I could see him making the jump to the Midwest League this year. He'll probably be the guy I most regret leaving off the Top 30.

Boise Hawks Announcer Mike Safford[/url]"]To say that Jeff Antigua was flat out dominant might be the understatement of the day, as the Hawks left-hander stymied the Eugene Emeralds for four and two-thirds innings in a 7-4 victory today at Civic Stadium.

How dominant? Of the 14 outs that he recorded, 11 were via a strikeout - the highest total by a Boise pitcher since Rich Hill (now with the Baltimore Orioles) fanned 13 batters on June 30, 2003 at Everett. Antigua had great movement on his fastball, got his curve-ball over for strikes, but he change-up was definitely the filthiest pitch of them all.

Today was also the Boise debut of Chris Rusin, the fourth-round pick out of Kentucky, who lasted two and a third innings before his pitch count was up. He had a live fastball and a quality curve, however, he left his change up in the zone and it was hit a bit. He will be another quality arm in the Cubs system.
