I watched the interview, and it was... confusing. There were parts where Obama totally looked like he knew his Baseball and was a legit fan. Like the part how Comiskey used to have those super steep upper deck parts, which is true.

 

But then there were parts where he called it "Cominskey Field". Whatever, it's not like it's important anyways.

In the big picture it definitely deserves to be filed in the "who cares?" drawer but it is kind of funny how defensive some people get when any mistake by him is mentioned.

 

Jeff Gordon was pretty universally panned for calling it Wrigley Park or whatever and he at least had the excuse of no real history of being a Cubs fan and of not being from the Chicagoland area.

I bet that if I would discuss the Cubs on national television that I would be able to correctly identify Wrigley Field and pronounce it properly at least 1 billion out of 1 billion times. That said, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm just annoyed that Obama has welcomed and met like every sports team out there since he became president, and when the Cubs went to visit yesterday somehow Obama didn't have time to meet them.

I'd be willing to bet those weren't just random questions thrown at him and that they were discussed a bit beforehand.

 

That's not to say it's an easy thing to do - I did radio during halftime of a couple UC Davis basketball games last year and it's tough to come up with an answer right away, since pauses won't do - but he shouldn't be screwing up the name of the stadium that his favorite team plays in.

And I'm pretty sure Obama knows where the White Sox play. You can tell he really likes baseball, and when asked about it, he has a lot to say. It could just be a case of his thoughts running faster than his mouth. Happens.
