The Royals acquired Yuniesky Betancourt and cash from the Mariners for a pair of minor league pitchers, according to Joe Hamrahi of Baseball Daily Digest. Betancourt makes at least $10MM before his current deal expires, so it'll be interesting to see how much the Mariners are contributing. The pitchers are Danny Cortes and Derrick Saito.

Cortes was the Royals' No. 3 prospect as rated by BA before the season started, FYI.

holy crap...was he supposed to be anything special?

i remember when Yuniesky was untouchable

nevertheless, Moore's quite possibly worse than Baird was, if that's possible

Now Yuniesky is hurt. The Royals could have gotten Julio Lugo without giving up quality prospects if they waited a week.

He's been hurt. The Royals activated him today, he'll start tomorrow.

While I don't like this move I think Moore has done a great job with the draft. He has stacked them with great young arms, which is why I understand this trade. There were talks of Cortes becoming a middle reliever anyways. Plus Baird traded away Jermaine Dye and got back Neifi Perez. Then he traded Carlos Beltran and got back John Buck and Mark Teahan. He also traded Johnny Damon and got back Angel Berroa. But, he did sign Mike Sweeney to a huge deal. ](*,)
