If we're going to moralize about how pot declines athletes' performances, I'd like to make the claim that Mark Grace would have been a first ballot Hall of Famer if he didn't go through a pack of Winstons a game.

Seriously, NBA players dont seem to have much trouble running up and down the court, and pretty sure most of that league smokes weed.

exactly. the vast majority of nba players smoke. really it shouldn't effect you unless you're smoking multiple times a day, which i doubt geo has been doing

Surprised so many people are fine with this.

why wouldn't we be? it's weed. big deal. it's no worse than a player drinking

Except that they drug test for weed, duh. It's like, you know, illegal and stuff.

the only way you could get into legal trouble with weed is if you're really, really dumb.

lol @ len today during the game talking about how "it must feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off geo's shoulders". yeah len, i'm sure he was kept up at nights thinking about that night that he smoked that joint. it must have haunted him.

I think the implication was that Geo was informed that he had failed a test long before it was made public

oh, i didn't hear that. still though, i doubt geo was stressing over it. nobody should care

Good to know you're the master of all things pot. And yea, I guess that means the thousands upon thousands of people that get caught are "really, really dumb".

I care, the Cubs care, Geo cares, Geo's family cares, MLB cares, etc. He messed up. Quit glossing it over.

soto just tested positive for weed, and is he in any sort of legal trouble at all? no. even if you get caught with personal amounts, the cop will rarely ever actually arrest the person. the people who get in actual trouble with weed are people who sell and stuff like that.

really alcohol is wayyyyy worse than weed, yet it's accepted while smoking is "irresponsible" because of some stupid law that will never really impact your life anyways

people pretend they care because it's pc. really nobody cares. dont stallworth just killed a dude driving drunk and somehow only got a month in jail.... but geo smoked WEED

p.s. how do you know that geo and his family care so much? for all you know he could have been smoking with his family.

I have visions of Lou and Geo doing bong rips together after clinching the division last year.

On another note, which Cub would you be most surprised to find out smoked pot? I'd lean towards Lilly (I mean, no stoner is going to slam their glove down after allowing a HR) and Theriot. Lee would probably be up there as well.

I heard this rumor that pot is LEGAL in The Netherlands. But it's made everything over there lazier and dumber than your average Rockford resident, which is why according to all economic indicators available they have the world's worst economy since it is based solely around hand-made beaded jewelry and tulips. Also everyone in The Netherlands is a failure as a role model to their little brothers.

I walk by the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum and think to myself "Wow, what a bunch of dumb stoners. That's why they call it dope I guess."

You should probably read the articles about it, rather than mocking the opinions of those that DO know about it. Geo said in the intial press conference that this has been a pretty fair amount of stress for him for the last six weeks.

He just said that in the article because it is pc. Dex knows that, and is willing and able to speak for all people in this matter. I thought I was at least a little bit concerned about it but was thankfully notified by him that I was just pretending to be so now that I realize that I suddenly feel much better about the whole situation.

Just out of curiosity, were any players from the Netherlands tested during the WBC?

To answer my own question: they were.

Sidney Ponson tested positive for fentermine (which can be used to lose fat quickly  ), which means a two year suspension from IBAF events, but no more than a fine for his MLB status.
