I've played at Bethpage, but not the black course. Really tough, with ridiculous rough.

The weather is absolutely horrible, and it's supposed to rain off and on for the remained of the weekend. Play is currently suspended, but it might be able to start in an hour or so. June is normally the 2nd driest month in NY, but we're already nearly 2 inches above normal before taking into account the current storm.

4 unknowns are tied at -1 right now, and a bunch of others are currently even. Tiger is +1 after 6.

I've had my sights set on spending the rest of my weekend watching this, so hopefully the weather cooperates.

I just bought this external hard drive that hooks up to my HD DVR, which will allow me to record a couple thousand hours worth of programs. I was hoping to get it hooked up in time to save some of the shows I had already saved, but I had to make room for the US Open.

I've played the Black Course and the Red Course. Both are ridiculous for a hacker like myself. The Black Course is extremely long and you have to walk it. I think I shot in mid 100's. It was fun just to say I did it.

Tell me more.

Yeah I've got today off also. Was supposed to golf this morning but got rained out. At least I have the Open, Cubs/Indians and CWS all day.

So there has been a bit of an uproar over the status of those who bought tickets for yesterday's action. A guy called into Mike Francesa (formerly of Mike and Mad Dog show) and said he'd paid $150 for his ticket and only saw a handful of players on a couple holes. Most people didn't even tee off, and those that did didn't go very far. The PGA is doing nothing to either reimburse or allow them to see another day. Francesa went ballistic as only he can, saying he'd make this the main story at 1:05 today (when his show starts) and come in on Saturday and make it the focus of the show.

Apparantly now they are allowing people with Thursday tickets to come watch on Monday, if there is golf. Bad weather on Saturday should make that happen, and a tie in the final round would make it certain. But it's no guarantee.

I think there has to be some sort of understanding when purchasing a ticket that weather can effect how much golf you see. But if all you get is 2 hours in the morning, there should be some sort of prorated reimbursement, opportunity to come back on Friday and/or tickets to next year's Open.

Oh, and the leaders are still -1 while Tiger just finished round 1 +4. Phil is teeing off right now with Goosen and Els. Round two slated to begin at 4pm.

Not surprised to hear the USGA reversed course on not offering refunds or Monday tickets to those that were there yesterday.

Would love the chance to go to a US Open someday.

I may try to catch a round next time it's at Pinehurst (I believe that's 2014). I only live an hour or so from there.

Watching a Major is incredible. I got to go to the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills. It was a steady 98 degrees and you get a whole new appreciation for those guys. Tiger is out of this world.

i love how new yorkers try to show how rowdy they are and turn into a billy madison gallery.

i cant respect any gallery that treats phil mickleson like the messiah

they love everybody. except colin montgomerie probably.

everyone behaves like the stereotype of a loud italian guy from the bronx, complete with 20 morons yelling "get in the hole" after every swing - including a tee shot on a par 5.

i think what impresses me most about the pro golfers is their ability to hit the ball accurately and a long way out of the rough. i played on the penn state blue course about a month after they hosted the big ten men's championship... they had grown out the rough to at least 6 inches deep. while they were starting to trim it down, they can't chop it all at once because it leaves huge clumps of mowed grass and hurts the grass below the clumps. most of the time when i drove it in the rough - which unfortunately that day was quite frequently - i couldn't hit the ball more than 100 yards out of the rough. these guys hit out of 3-4" rough all the time; it's only when they're truly plugged that they can't advance the ball very far.

I don't know if you watch much golf but that happens at every course around the country. But it really only takes about 2 guys to make it seem like everybody in a golf crowd is behaving the same way. I went to the US Open a few years ago and the crowd itself is nothing like that. It's just the voices that get on TV that make it seem that way.

i watch enough golf to know that the patrons at bethpage are louder than just about anywhere.

This weekend's weather was absolutely horrible. Are they playing yet?

Yep. TV coverage started at 9am EST.

What channel? NBC is showing the Today show still.

ESPN. Switches to NBC at 11:30.

I must have accidentally turned to espn2 earlier because I saw tennis. Damn I wasted all morning with news on the TV (I guess that's why it's there though).

Yeah, both leaders are 2 over so far today, but Mickelson took a penalty stroke on 6 (his fourth of the tournament, which is hard to do when only one of the holes has water), and bogeyed 7, so he's still 5 back.

Hunter Mahan is all of a sudden within 2 shots, though.

EDIT: Wait, no, make that 3 back as Mahan bogeyed 8 after blowing a birdie putt 10 feet past the hole and missing the comebacker.

I don't think that's true anymore.

Anyone else completely floored by Duval being a tubby? I mean I'm in no great shape, but I'm not getting paid to play golf either....

Dude used to be a rail.
