I think that would fix alot.

not really. moving soriano from leadoff isn't going to make the other guys hit.

maybe not, but if you get someone out there thats not going to strike out on 3 straight bad pitches to start the game off, it could help ignite the offense. Try Theriot. Hes really the only option. Maybe Fukudome. Im not saying that it will, but when you start the game off with a quick, ugly strikeout, it sets a tone.

i guess i don't understand why you still want Soriano hitting 3rd if you're so concerned with his current struggles. i mean, you have the guys who are actually starting to hit (Lee, Fontenot and to a lesser degree, Soto) at the bottom of the order. how is that supposed to spark more offense?

is more to my liking. Fuku and Fontenot could be interchangeable, depending on whose hotter, as can the piece of garbage of the day and the pitchers spot.

i'm not advocating this, but if Lou really wants to be creative in trying to spark the offense he could get Fox back up (after his 10 days is up) and platoon Hoff/Fox in LF with Soriano playing 2B and Fontenot at 3B. he did flirt with the idea a while back, though i don't think he'd actually go through with it. i do think that would be more likely than him playing Fox regularly at 3B. he's clearly not comfortable with that.

If you remember back, it was Lou that gave people like Theriot and Soto a chance to earn a lot of playing time as young players. The Cubs won a lot of games due to those type of decisions. This year, though, Lou seems incredibly passive as to what's going on on the field, and doesn't seem quite ready to make radical moves yet. I'd love to see things like Soriano at 2B, Fox/Hoffpauir playing regularly, etc., but I don't think it's in our near future.

The Theriot/Soto decisions aren't really similar at all to the Fox situation, though. Neither Theriot nor Soto were awful at any facet of the game and Soto was hitting at a terrific pace (similar to what Fox is now).

Fox, however, is awful defensively, so not only do you have to wonder how he'll transition offensively to the move to the majors (like you did with Theriot/Soto) but you also have to wonder how much of a negative he'll be (or Soriano would be at 2B) defensively. Unless Fox plays far better defensively than all reports indicate he will (or Sori figures out how to play 2B), then this is a completely different situation.

I miss DeRosa. He's killing the baseball right now. .817 OPS overall and 1.2 in the last 7 days.

More importantly, he's posting a 935 OPS with runners on base, which is usually when this team goes limp offensively.

Well, I meant that should be the lineup if everyone was hitting the way they should be.

But actually.. after thinking about it... I would flip-flop Ramirez and Soriano in that lineup. I think with Aramis hitting earlier in the lineup we'd be better off. I'm actually gonna edit my previous post I think.

Eff Jim Hendry.

Wait, isn't DeRo still right handed? That's not what this team needs.

That's what I would go with right now, and I would supplant RF and LF with Hoff and Fox if things do not pick up.

Soriano at leadoff should be *over*.

At some point a team that is struggling mightily to score runs needs to think about maybe sacrificing a little defense to try to get some production at the plate; it doesn't matter how damn good the defense is if you are averaging less than 3 runs a game

Cubs May Not Need Hitter After All

By Howard Megdal [June 18 at 9:15pm CST]

Rumblings after Wednesday's game coming from the often-rumbling Lou Piniella centered around changes in the lineup.

But as Carrie Muskat reported, the Cubs kept the status quo in place, particularly Alfonso Soriano at the top of the lineup, despite a sub-.300 on-base percentage.

Of course, the storyline from Thursday's 6-5 win is that Soriano had the game-winning hit as Chicago's bats came alive.

But while much of the focus will be on the rejuvenated offense, the questions surrounding ownership transfer may be the real barrier to the Cubs bringing in a bat. Tip of the hat to Carrie Muskat again.

The two questions here: do the Cubs have their finances set enough to add payroll? And does Carrie Muskat ever sleep?

I hope this is just speculation. The win was nice today, but damn, we still need help out there. If I see Miles or Blanco in another starting lineup, Im going to lose it.
