Without getting up to look, is there any pre-draft coverage on MLB TV today?

I can't confirm this but someone on Sickels' blog said that they have pre-draft coverage 1 hour before.

Please, anyone but Jackson, with "anyone" = pleasepleaseplease let Gibson fall.

If we're hoping for guys who probably are unlikely to fall to 31, I'm going to go ahead and hope Matzek's sudden bonus demands drop him down to the Cubs.

I'm hoping that for Turner since the Cubs have actually been rumored to be after him.

Any chance the Royals get lucky and Strasburg falls to them with the 12th pick?

Keith Law

$5. Just for asking the most ridiculous question of the day.

I found this funny.

Yeah, it sounds like there's no way Pollock falls to 31.

Keith, do you think Miller's bonus demands are that firm? Do you think he would settle for less if Atlanta took him? Big gamble, I know, but don't you have to think about taking that risk if the other options are Minor or White?

Keith Law

He's pretty firm at $4 million. Personally, I would just take him, offer him a half-million over slot, and tell him to take it or go to school and roll the dice with some idiot college coach throwing him 169 pitches the day after he threw an inning of relief.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

For those who care about Keith Law:

Quick note - I won't be on OTL today after all, so first TV hit is at 4:20 EDT on ESPNEWS. Also, Jason and I are going to liveblog at least the first round here starting right around 6. Thanks!

This year's signing deadline will be August 17th, not 8/15 since the 15th is a Saturday.

BA and Keith Law both have locked in on this for the top 4:

1. Nationals: San Diego State righthander Stephen Strasburg.

2. Mariners: North Carolina first baseman Dustin Ackley.

3. Padres: Georgia HS outfielder Donavan Tate.

4. Pirates: Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez.

Looks like the Pirates will pinch pennies. I will laugh if they can't sign Miguel Sano on July 2nd.

Keith Law's reporting the Buccos officially have a pre-draft deal in place with Sanchez and will select him #4 overall.

Oh, how I hope this blows up in their faces.

Back to back picking on the Pirates posts. What's the story here? Does this guy not belong anywhere near the top 5?

Yep.

Tony Sanchez isn't a particularly bad player or anything. He's a polished college player who'll stick at catcher and could be a decent every day starter in the majors. I think people have had him as a potential supplemental 1st rounder, maybe a touch higher. However, he has nothing like the ceilings of other players who will be available at #4 for the Pirates to take. It's clear that the Pirates are taking him to save money.

BA has him rated as the #32 prospect in the draft. The rumor is they're trying to save money in the first round for a few signability guys later and also to sign (arguably) the top July 2nd prospect, Miguel Sano.

Latest Keith Law revision:

31. Chicago Cubs

Andy Oliver, LHP, Oklahoma State: They could still go with Cal outfielder Brett Jackson, whom I projected them to take last week.

These six picks look fairly certain:

1. Nationals: San Diego State righthander Stephen Strasburg.

2. Mariners: North Carolina first baseman Dustin Ackley.

3. Padres: Georgia HS outfielder Donavan Tate.

4. Pirates: Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez.

5. Orioles: California HS righthander Matt Hobgood.

6. Giants: Georgia HS righthander Zack Wheeler.

The Braves are up next, and likely will choose between Vanderbilt lefthander Mike Minor and North Carolina righthander Alex White. We laid out that scenario in this morning’s projection, and we’ll stick with that for now. I’ll keep updating as long as I can before I go into rehearsal.

Figured Matzek would still be a lock to the Giants despite the bonus demands. Hobgood seems to be rising quite a bit due to his signability.
