If we learned anything tonight it's between Miles, Fontenot and Scales we have no major league 2B/3B on the team and Hoff needs to be starting somewhere everyday.

I agree with this statement except for Scales.

When Z comes back, how about we DFA Miles, put Fonty back on the bench, and try Scales @ starting 2B?

I don't understand what's up with Fontenot. There was every reason to think he'd hang around a 775-825 OPS this season.

Way to cut down your swing with 2 strikes Reed. Effing [expletive]

On the bright side we are only 2 games out in the L column and we have been playing like little leaguers and the Brewers have won like their last 100 games.

It's also only May 20th.

Youve been a member since 2005. Do you still think you'll be able to get those ready to call it a season down from the lefge?

Scales ceiling is probably a utility guy, which is fine, but we are going to need to be starting him 3-5 times a week until Aram gets back and I don't think he's capable of being a close to everyday guy.

How about we aquire a second baseman or a third baseman? Even is scales does make in in the majors, he is not a starter. never will be.

Well, if you can ignore his age, he was obliterating AAA before his call up.

I don't know. I just think right now it would be better for him to go back to his more familiar role.

Then who's at 3B? Miles?

the .885 OPS isnt exactly obliteration.

Ok, well, it's certainly well above average, especially for a middle infielder. Right?

I guess Miles, until Ram comes back, then DFA? I doubt Hendry would do that though, but I can't stand the guy.

I don't know -- I was suggesting it more for Fonty's benefit than anything. I no longer think we are doing him any favors having him pound his head against the brick wall like this. He's in unfamiliar territory -- struggling badly as a starter in the majors. Perhaps he's just not ready for that. Get him back on firm ground, see if his bat come back a little with more time off.

Definitely see where you're coming from, and at this point, I don't think we can do any more harm to him. Time to try something different.

I guess it comes down to a bad offense vs. a struggling offense. Tony knows he has a bad offense, and he works around his one good hitter and makes them play small ball around him. Lou, on the other hand has a bunch of good hitters in funks, and in order to get them to get out of the funks want them to all swing for the fences. Maybe we shoul try some small ball tomorrow. Hell, out with Font and Scales, in with Miles and Freel.

I just dont understand that when your 2 options are a guy who cant hit righties and a switch hitter who will have to come into the game next inning why youd go with the guy who cant hit righties.

Because the switch hitter can't hit anybody. In a very small sample size so far this year Reed is hitting .557 against righties and Miles is hitting .462. Our bench is bad, so we're going to have bad options no matter what (save for Hoff and, for now, Scales) but I think Reed there was the right decision.

Just saw the final score... was it as bad as it looks? Looks like Demp had a decent outing.

Demp looked good all night, I thought. The offense obviously didn't look good, but again, the Cardinal pitchers were mostly right around the plate.
