Peoria up 6-0 in the 5th. In four innings Archer has put only 3 runners on by wildman (two walks and a HBP), and a couple of singles to go with 7 K's.

Prepare for Bob to gush during tonight's game since Michael Brenly's gone 3/3 so far tonight.

Flaherty's got his average up to .280. I'm really digging his patience and hoping he can get a bit more power under his belt.

Vitters has yet another single.

Tyler Colvin and Tony Campana had a head-on collision in the outfield. Both were taken out on stretchers to the hospital and there was a really long delay. The game is just under way again.

Both talked and showed movement as they were taken away.

That was his final line- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K, 2 BB. Archer is another 6'3" pitcher. But he doesn't turn 21 until late Sept. Over his last 3 outings, he's pitched 11 innings without allowing an earned run, giving up 4 hits while walking 6 and striking out 18. Nice. Keep it up, Chris!

Guyer and Barney add another single, so naturally Sandberg has Thomas sacrifice them over. Maybe we should start keeping a log of these things for when his name comes up for the Cubs job someday.

Good to see Guyer having a nice day, his K and BB rates are actually quite good, his BABIP couldn't stay around .175 forever.

chirinos needs the call up to AA

hasn't he been in the system forever.

Yeah - he was probably close to being cut at different times in the past, but his versatility is keeping him around (he can play catcher and all of the infield positions).

With a mid-90s FB. Control is the big issue for Dolis.

Fun game in Mississippi tonight. Sandberg signed some autographs before the game.

Thomas looked very much like a hitter. He also showed some ability to use both fields. He got hits to both right and left field.

Barney looked good too.

Robnett looked bad. It may have been a bad game for him, but his swings at curveballs reminded me of Cerano from Major League. Maybe he should get Jobu some rum.

Mateo was bringing the heat tonight. The scoreboard gun had him consistently in the 92-93 range, and from what I've heard it's a slow gun.

The entertainment came in the 8th when a Braves hitter...can't remember who exactly was called out on strikes. He argued a bit and told the up to off. The ump tossed him. Phillip Wellemen (The Braves manager) then went off on the umpire and had to be restrained by the base umpire. He kept calling the home plate ump a POS. Then he spit on homeplate when he left. I was hoping for another complete blow-up with a rosin bag toss and a taking of the bases, but it never happened.

We had the 2nd most sacrifices in the MWL last season and 3rd most in 2007 so that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Guyer started slow with us last season then hit 330 in July (.286 after AS break). I'm glad they challenged him with Double-A and I think if they keep him there you will see him have a very strong June-Sep. He is a very hard worker with a ton of talent.

Des Moines Regiester"]"He's here to work on secondary pitches," Iowa pitching coach Mike Mason said. "That's his plan."

The right-hander retired eight of the first nine batters he faced before Memphis pushed across two third-inning runs — on an infield single and then a two-run homer by Bryan Anderson.

"When Jeff was working as a starter here, he was encouraged to throw all his pitches, and he did," Mason said. "When he went to the big leagues, he was working out of the bullpen, and the fastball can't be your dominant pitch.

"You've got to have another pitch. Jeff never got to the other pitch, and when he did, he either missed it, or it wasn't a quality pitch."

I posted this in the collision thread but Colvin and Campana were released from the hospital. The descriptions sound real bad, especially four Campana. He was out for about 10 minutes:

Daytona News-Journal"]"It was very scary," said Cubs catcher Mark Reed, who saw the collision from Daytona's bullpen. "That's the worst collision I've ever seen. Something like that puts a sick feeling in your stomach and you just want them to know that they're in your thoughts and prayers."

Both players had aggressively gone after a hard line drive off the bat of Clearwater's Dominic Brown. They collided at full speed and were sprawled motionless on the turf.

"When I got to them Tony was out," right fielder Jonathan Wyatt said. "(Campana's) eyes were turned right and he wasn't awake. He had some blood in his mouth. It was pretty scary. I wanted to help him. I kept saying, 'Tony, wake up.' "

...

Both players were released after undergoing test. Bailey said both players suffered concussions and are day-to-day.
