I already miss not only Kerry Wood, but Bob Howry.

and Scott Eyre.

and Michael Wuertz.

and Jeff Samardzija.

I miss 2006 and 2007 Bob Howry.

I don't miss 2008 Bob Howry in the least.

The difference being, the 2008 Mets weaknesses didnt rear their heads until toward the end of the season when it was too late. We're already seing weaknesses in our pen, and if they continue for the next month or so, the situation can be rectified.

David Patton, Angel Guzman, Kevin Gregg, and Neal Cotts are making me miss 2008 Bob Howry.

2008 Howry was worse than Patton, Guzman, Gregg, and Cotts so far.

I'm not ready to get all psycho over the bullpen, but isn't it awesome that Mark DeRosa wasn't worth a major league bullpen arm in trade? :banghead:

There isn't a single member of the bullpen to have pitched 6 innings yet.

And yet, still the only members not to be better than Howry, Eyre, and Wuertz were last year are Gregg and Cotts, who have combined for 6.2 IP.

Also, Samardzija wasn't any better than any of Heilman, Guzman, Patton, or Vizcaino have been so far.

The bullpen has walked way too many guys, that's been its only real problem. It won't continue at this rate, and they will be fine.

They did get one, but he has options and Guzman and Patton and don't. They also got a future LH reliever that actually is hard on LH hitters.

To be honest, IM not really worried about the pen. They'll be fine. Granted, Id rather a better lefty than Cotts, but if Cotts keepd up what hes doing, it will happene sooner or later.

The offense on the other hand, maybe.

The only guys that I can really count on to produce what they did last year are Soriano, Ramirez, and Theriot.

-Soto-He could have a sophmore slump. He woulsnt be the first player. Also, the 7th spot isnt a good place for a hitter of his capabilities if he ever wants to see a hitable pitch in a time when it counts

-Fukudome is red hot now, but he was last year around this time

-Derrek Lee seems to keep up his steady decline, and while I dont doubt he'll end up a serviceable hitter, you need more than a serviceable hitter in the 3 spot

-Bradley-not off to a great start. Already getting banged up. How long before the "Why didnt Hendry sign Adam Dunn" posts

-Fontenot-Never could hit lefties. I still think we could have kept DeRosa and been able to sign Bradley. Maybe if Hendry werent so eager to jump all over super sought after free agent Aaaron Miles. I understodd considering moving DeRosa when it would have meant a3 team deal for Peavy, but other than that, not that smart, especially on his contract year, when youd think hed be trying to 1 Up his career year.

There are questions about 95 percent of baseball players, every season. Naming worst-case scenarios for a bunch of Cubs doesn't really show anything.

I'm not sure what he listed up there was a worst case scenario. Soto having a sophomore slump isn't worst case. Soto missing tons of time and sucking is worst case. Lee continuing his late career decline isn't worst case, it's most likely. Fontenot can't hit lefties, and Miles is the only other MI option, where's the worst case?

Sorry, I shouldn't have said "worst case." I just meant that it's pointless to name a bunch of players and say what could go wrong. That can be done with any team, and it doesn't prove anything.

Why does he have to prove something? He's concerned about the Cubs this year and listed reasons why. He didn't say stuff like aliens might steal Aramis Ramirez or a stalker fan might assassinate another player. He listed a couple of real world concerns.

How long before Shark is brought up and someone currently on the roster is released?

I gotta imagine Jeff Stevens would be a more likely call up. Samardzija appears to be the Cubs' 6th starter.
