Should be 10 for each... not having their [expletive] ties tied down.

your right...I actually think its a game misconduct

Malkin got a misconduct... Zetterberg only got 5 for fighting. Should have been 10 for each.

I have never actually seen anyone get the misconduct for the jersey not being tied down.

Fight ties not tied down is automatically a GAME MISCONDUCT... I think its a new rule in the last couple years.

It is...been a rule for about 10 years. I am just saying that I have never actually seen anyone called for it. It happens quite often.

Bugs me that Zetterberg was fighting with his gloves on. Also annoying that Osgood dove back on Talbot's weak stick tap...on first glance I assumed he blatantly speared him, but it was nothing.

I hate both of these teams, but man Detroit is just a machine.

Hard to get your gloves off when you are jumped.

He was able to throw punches though?

At the officials? AWESOME!

He wasnt going to fight though...Malkin forced the issue. Probably lucky for Malkin he didnt get his gloves off. Still think Linesman should get a serious butt chewing for breaking up a fight by himself.

I agree. It's pretty tough to stop 4 arms from flying when you've only got 2.

Versteeg and a few other Hawks were called for it this year.

Its a rule for the players own safety. Should be called. I think I did see it called a couple of times the first year after the rule change, but I havent seen it called in years. Again this is just how inconsistent the NHL officiating is. Just call the rules.

Also, you are going to help one pugilist over the other to break it up.

I dont think its going to happen, but the way I understand the rule Malkin should get an automatic suspension next game. Less than 5 minutes left in a game. He got an instigator and Misconduct..I think that is an automatic suspension next game. Like I said, not going to happen though.

they can rescind the misconduct. usually the suspension is given to a goon who's sole misson is to stir things up at the end of the game, and I agree with that. without seeing the play, my guess is that malkin didn't get on the ice for his shift and just look for someone to jump. maybe he did, i dunno.

I think that's a dumb rule... he instigated the fight with under 5 minutes left and should be penalized as such. Not going to happen like both of you said, but the rules need to be followed.

the point isn't to stop "instigating" necessarily, it's to stop goons from being goons in the last 5 minutes of the game, to stop that "message sending" non-sense.

Well, Malkin was sending messages. Obvious frustration boiling over.

For those of you still wondering about the puck on Osgood's back in Game 1:

"No defending player, except the goalkeeper, will be permitted to fall on the puck, hold the puck, pick up the puck, or gather the puck into the body or hands when the puck is within the goal crease. For infringement of this rule, play shall immediately be stopped and a penalty shot shall be ordered against the offending team, but no other penalty shall be given."

Should have been penalty shot for Pitt.

NHL's Campbell rescinds Malkin suspension Sunday, 05.31.2009 / 11:48 PM / 2009 Stanley Cup Final: Detroit vs. Pittsburgh NHL.comDETROIT -- National Hockey League Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell issued the following statement regarding the instigator penalty assessed to Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin at 19:41 of the third period of tonight’s Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final:

Rule 47.22 states: "A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident. The director of hockey operations will review every such incident and may rescind the suspension based on a number of criteria. The criteria for the review shall include, but not be limited to, the score, previous incidents, etc..."

Following that review, Campbell said: "None of the criteria in this rule applied in this situation. Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded."

HAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHH!

NHL IS SUCH A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no question about this rule...the question is this, being that the puck was on Osgoods back, was it in the crease? Does the crease extend off the ice surface? If so would it be a penalty shot if a player was shooting an EN and a dman was playing goalie and the dman caught the puck and laid it down and played it.

If there was any chance of Malkin getting suspended, the refs would never have given him the misconduct. So the rule is really moot. Its just a rule so the league has grounds to suspend a player who is intentionally gooning it up. For all the things that have not received suspensions this playoff season, it would be absurd to suspend Malkin for that.

that suspension has been revoked so many times over. malkin isn't getting special treatment here.

Sucks that a superstar is instantly immune to a suspension while clearly STARTING a fight with a player that had to throw punches with HIS GLOVES ON because he was jumped. Go choke on one, Campbell.

superstars like scott walker and brendan morrow.

pretty damn similar play to malkin's after watching the highlights. but i guess colin campbell just likes evgeni malkin, right? gimme a break.

in case you weren't clear: morrow received an instigator for that and had his suspension revoked by the league.

why isn't anybody talking about osgood's huge dive?

1:13

I think I mentioned this during the game 1 chat, diving is a problem in the NHL. I try not to excuse any Wings player for doing it either. I am starting to have an issue that somehow it is only Wings players who get accused of it. Crosby may be the most blatant player in the league at doing it. I admired Getzlaf in the 2nd round for calling out Red Wings players for doing it, but if you really want to have an impact why dont you call out the players on your own team who do(Anaheim had several).

Also, yes Osgood dove but Talbot would not have gotten called for an obvious penalty if he didnt. Way to often the NHL refs are calling penalties based on the damage done and not the actual penalty, which is encouraging diving. If refs would just call ruled penalties(including diving) I think diving would go away pretty quick.

Here is a good article written by a non hockey writer about the Malkin non-suspension. Again I am not calling for Malkin to be suspended, but it is a great article about how the NHL has become way to subjective in their enforcement of rules. Similar to penalties on the ice, just follow the rule book and many of your image problems would probably go away. Also, if the NHL didnt consistently overturn this rule, I am sure the Malkin/Zetterberg incident wouldnt have happened last night. So there would be no "controversy" to have to deal with

i'm not sure i can recall a single skillful normal goal all series so far from either team. they've all just been lucky bounces or prayers all these guys wouldn't make again if they had 100 chances.

no reason to get upset about rescinding Malkin's penalty when the refs haven't even brought their whistles onto the ice with them this series
