LOL:

The only first baseman on the list of potential roster replacements is Derrek Lee of the Chicago Cubs, who has been hampered by a sore thigh.

Dunn said Johnson asked him after Tuesday night's game if he would play first, and since Dunn was signed as an outfielder/first baseman with the Nats, he figured it wouldn't be an issue.

"I don't even know where I'm playing with the Nationals," Dunn said. "It's true, I really don't."

He added he had packed his first-base glove with him, and then quipped his defensive skills are on par with Omar Vizquel.

"That's the only player I can compare my hands to," Dunn joked.

Derrek Lee won't be the replacement for Kevin Youkilis in the WBC because of his sore right quad.

Lee is expected back in the Cubs' lineup Friday after missing three days with the problem, but he doesn't feel comfortable leaving the team now.

Lee is almost to the point of not warranting being a starter for the Cubs.

On what planet and for what reason?

Planet Earth and because Hoffpauir might be just as good as him. Actually, it would make a lot more sense to stick Hoff at 1B and dump Lee on a team dumb enough to take his contract, because you'd save $10M and not be saddled with a league-average first baseman, but unfortunately since Bill Bavasi and Jim Bowden are now unemployed, there may not be a MLB GM dumb enough to take on Lee's contract without demanding a bunch of money at the same time.

So, in short, we're nowhere near to Lee not being a starter for the Cubs.

Like people have been saying.

well i agree, but not because of ability. in terms of ability and cost-effectiveness, we should be really close to lee not being a starter for the cubs. actually we probably should be there already. in terms of real life, where nobody takes on albatross salaries and veterans get more credit than they're due, lee has at least another year of starting duty unless he completely loses it.

I would not be opposed to sitting Lee as much as possible when the season starts with the idea of him being stronger later on, especially since it would ideally means Aramis is batting in the #3 spot.

I'd guess you'd be more likely to see Bradley, Aramis, Hoffpauir at 3, 4, 5 in the order.

I wasn't sure whether Lou would want lefty-lefty at 2-3 or 4-5. Either way, ideally Soto would then be batting 6 instead of 7.

in a perfect world we drafted wieters, ate half of lee's contract, didn't trade derosa and are heading into this season with either soto or wieters at 1B, the other playing catcher, derosa still playing 2B and being a super sub at 3B/OF, kerry wood still closing games and aaron miles is wandering the sahara.

So what do you plan to do with the $10M that you'd save? I hope you don't suggest the owners pocket that money themselves.
