Pirates close to deal with Hinske

THURSDAY, 12:20am: Dejan Kovacevic says Friday is more likely than Thursday for Hinske to sign.

 

WEDNESDAY, 5:23pm: Jon Heyman agrees. He says the Pirates are in serious discussions with Hinske, working towards a deal worth roughly $1.5MM.

Not exactly what we need. It'd be better if he were right handed.

 

Still, he can play 3B if in fact Andy LaRoche continues to suck.

He can play LF until McCutch is ready if Morgan sucks.

He can play RF is Moss sucks.

He can play 1B in April when Adam LaRoche usually sucks.

 

So, in other words, he's a back of in case of suckage.

i think he's pretty useful as a role player, and he is good insurance in case laroche flops. i actually think this is a good move for the pirates, not that it really matters since they're the pirates.

Yeah, he's not great, but this is still a good deal. He's better than half the players on that team.
