Many of you will be too young to remember when Pekin High School called themselves the Chinks. I believe it was changed to the Dragons in the late '70's.

True story.

My senior year I got in a huge argument with some old fart because he had an old leather "Pekin Chinks" coat on at a home basketball game for Pekin. Honestly I don't even know how he was allowed in a public area with that crap on. Asshat. I have two adopted sisters from China, plus lived there myself, so needless to say I was far from thrilled. Pekin is an incredibly backwards, racist town (they hate all non-whites equally, dont worry). I feel sorry for anyone that grew up or has to live there.

I smile to myself every time they lose in any HS sporting event. Even better if the Panthers or Lions destroy them.

the cardinals are always a threat. always

Except last year when they were about 80 games behind us.

i don't remember that. i remember us winning an obscene amount of games and them still being within shouting distance most of the year. they were still a threat last year. luckily we had a ridiculous season and didn't have to sweat it out until the end.

if they won 86 games with the roster they had last year and a ridiculous amount of blown games by the bullpen, then you'd be dumb to ever write them off before a season.

"rumor" has it (as in Tony LaRussa said) that with the Cardinals having a surplus of outfielders, and a shortage of certain 2B, that he might try one of the outfielders at 2nd this year. My guess is that Skip Schumacher will get tested there. He played 2nd in college, I believe.

I wrote them off last year before the season. I was not dumb to do so.

They're going to try Mather and Schu. Mather would be an intriguing 2nd baseman if he can pull it off. That bat is all of a sudden a huge plus.

Is East Peoria in the house?

When I say Canton, you say Little Giants.

Canton!

i student taught at east peoria high school if that counts for anything.

I'm sorry. I know this is as big a stretch as they come, but if Peoria : New York, then East Peoria : Jersey.

Yes it was, unless you also predicted the Cubs would win 97 games. If you predicted 85-90 wins like most people were, then it was dumb to write them off, since they were right there.

Writing a team off implies that they're going to suck. 86-76 is far from suck
