Bradford is staying (just announced it).

Stupid move on his part (Beane Wells/Matt Leinart.. ring a bell?), but I guess he didn't want to play for the Lions.

Matt Leinart was a top-10 pick when he came out. Sure, it's not No. 1, but it's not like he dropped into the second round or anything like that. He still got paid big time and it wasn't a stupid move to come back to USC for a year.

Leinart was projected as top 2 or 3 pick after their National Title Win against Oklahoma. He choose to come back when he had nothing to prove in college football, and he dropped to 10th to Arizona where he's still riding the pine behind Warner.

Sam Bradford is projected as the #1 pick in this draft to the Lions. He has virtually nothing to prove to the college football world. He's probably not going to beat Florida again next year, and probably will lose to Texas again next year.

I get why Tim Tebow (not a 1st rounder) is on his way back, and hell, I get why Colt McCoy (Late 1st to Early 2nd rounder) is coming back. I don't get why Sam Bradford (a projected #1 in many, if not all draft boards) is coming back to college football.

And who is to say that Leinart wouldn't be riding the pine behind had he come out a year earlier? He dropped, at most, nine spots in the draft from first overall to 10th. He signed a six-year, $51M deal so, as I said, he still got his money. If he would have dropped into the second round, then yes, it would have been a bad idea. But he stayed in college for year, was the king of USC for another year and had a shot at another National Title. He didn't really lose much of anything by coming back.

Sanchez reportedly in the draft. Crap.

I thought he was waiting to see what Bradford did and so this isn't a big surprise. Plus the LA media had been hinting that he'd turn pro. I'm still surprised Taylor Mays didn't turn pro. It just seemed like he was gearing up to turn pro all season long.

Ahh well, you guys will be fine. If not Corp, it'll be Mustain and if not either of them, it'll be Barkley. That's three 5-star QBs more than UCLA has.

Yeah, I'm not sure how this will work out for him. I think he does have a lot to gain skills wise by coming back another year but the dearth of quarterbacks in this class, especially now that Bradford is coming back, is probably enticing. I could see anything from the top 15 to sliding until the late 2nd round for him if there's a run on other positions.

I guess he's battling Davis for the #2 spot among QBs behind Stafford. I wouldn't consider it out of the realm of possibility if he ends up competing with Stafford for the #1 spot though. He's definitely the most physically talented USC QB to come out since Palmer.

I would take Sanchez over Stafford but I wouldn't take either in the top 5. Both have an immense ceiling but Sanchez has done more so far, imo. I think he's more advanced. I wouldn't be shocked if some team falls in love with Freeman and makes him the #3 QB in the draft.

In other news, that sound you just heard was Mitch Mustain cheering emphatically.

And Aaron Corp. If I had to guess, I'd say Corp will be the starter next season.

Aaron Corp will get a very real shot at starting next year. I'd say Mustain is the clubhouse leader for now but he's more like a 60/40 favorite at this point, IMO.

I think Freeman has a chance to be pretty good. He needs a lot of seasoning but he looks the part of an NFL QB more than a lot of those pass wacky spread guys. He has a lot of ability and he was really hampered by being in a crappy, crappy K-State program.

And the fact that he really, really sucks.

Would I be completely out of line calling Mitch Mustain an idiot?

He could have gone just about anywhere else and been an immediate starter - leading to a much higher likelihood of a lucrative NFL contract. Instead, he's likely going to have to take the Matt Cassell route to the NFL.

But at least he's getting California babes there.

His stats weren't terrible for being on a bad team, though.

58.6% completions, 7.71 yards per completion, 20:8 TD:INT ratio and 136.5 QB rating

The stats may not tell the whole story, but those numbers will be tantalizing - especially with his great size and speed. He looks like he has a lot of potential.

He can't throw the ball down the field at all. Everything that comes out is a too-hot-to-handle laser beam that often times hits his intended receiver on the bounce.

That's what's going to cost him a 1st round selection probably. It could be fixable (and a team will definitely give him the opportunity) or he could turn into Byron Leftwich.

Leinart should do a follow up piece for SI on why the teams before Arizona didnt draft him and see what kind of reaction he gets this time.

Whats going on with Oher, ive seen scout inc say he is 25 and kiper say he is 10, doesnt look like he improved his position this year. Kiper has 3 LB in top ten and 7 in top 20, thats seems like way to much, especially the 3 in top 10. A LB in top 10 better be a freak.

His big board is only seniors right now. Aaron Curry and Rey Maualuga are top 15 picks (Curry could go top 5, imo) and Brian Cushing and James Laurinaitis are also first rounders. If Brandon Spikes comes out, he'll be a first rounder too.

If Leinart came out as a junior there was a 90% chance he would have been taken #1 by the 49ers. They loved him, he was a California prospect, and I remember the GM saying they think Leinart was the best QB in the draft (pre-Combine though).
