I'm excited about the deal. However, I don't think you can really evaluate whether this was a smart deal or not for 2-3 years. All of these blowhards in the media already declaring this a great or horrible move are all just being sensationalist for their job security. We'll see how the draft picks that the Broncos get end up panning out. Plus, as I think someone previously mentioned, the Bears have a better track record finding gems after the 2d round than in the first round. Angelo is actually one of the better GMs in the league finding good talent in the second half of the draft. Too bad he never could draft as well at the top.

Overall, my prediction is that both teams will be content with this deal in 3 years.

Seconded.

I'm not saying I'm not pleased by this move. I just think we need to step back and be cautious. Sorry for not chugging the Kool Aid by the gallon.

Plus his little temper tantrum/drama in Denver makes me wonder if he'll pull that cr*p here.

Keep in mind the whole thing started when Denver fired Shanahan and the OC, both of which Cutler liked and was trying to fight for. Then Denver tried to trade for Matt Cassel. After that, Cutler met with the new Denver coach (McRoberts?)), which still didn't apparently settle things. It was pretty obvious Denver's offensive plan didn't mesh well with Cutler. Both sides are at fault here for the situation, Denver for basically ignoring Cutler until after a failed Cassel trade, and Cutler for apparently not getting over it and being willing to work with the new staff.

well, there's nothing wrong with be cautious with your optimism.

i'm not as bothered by the situation in Denver because his rep coming out of college was the complete opposite of that. really the only thing i'm worried about as far as Cutler goes is an injury, but that would go for any good QB.

Screw cautious optimism. Seriously, if you can't get yourself excited for this deal, I really don't know what would get you excited. The Bears have a 25 year old pro bowl franchise QB with 3 years left on his contract. They gave up some draft picks...2 of them first round, which have not been something Angelo does very well. Plus they don't have to pay out first round bonuses for 2 years now.

I refuse to step back and be cautious. This is a once in a generation trade. This kind of trade just doesn't happen in the NFL. I'm going to freaking enjoy every second of it, no matter who wants to try to water it down.

Why am I not excited about this?

still a questionable OL, crappy receivers, and an aging defense.

Bingo. Some people are acting like Cutler is Flutie, Montana, Young, McMahon, Manning and Brady all rolled into one. It's just hard for me to get excited over Cutler since the Bears have had like 30 QBs since I started watching as a little kid in the 70's.

Plus I'm not excited about Pace either. He was great 8 to 10 years ago, but now he's getting pretty old in a position that has a very short shelf life.

i think you need to remember that Cutler is only 25 years old. the only other QB's to throw over 4,000 yards each of the last two seasons are P. Manning, Brees and Warner. he's signed for at least three years and the Bears have time to fill those other holes while he's still in his prime. Forte is only 23. Olsen is 24. Hester is 26. the Bears actually have some really nice young talent on offense.

also, a franchise quarterback can keep a team successful through tough times. getting one is the most important thing you can do to maintain consistent success.

Posted
If Cutler can hit Hester in stride on a go route once a game, I'll be thrilled with the trade.

Greg Olsen is about to fulfill a whole lot more of his potential.

Exactly what I was thinking.

orton is the exact time of qb that mcdaniels is looking for. it wouldn't surprise me if they don't take sanchez in the first. in fact, i seriously doubt that they do, even if he's available.

I just got back from Starbucks with a couple people from work. One of the guys is trying to find out where he can get a Bears Cutler jersey so he can wear it to the Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee next Friday so he can mess with the Packers fans.

If Cutler had played his first 2 and 1/2 seasons for the Bears, he'd already be #6 on the career list for passing yards and would jump to 2nd and nearly 1st in his next season.

Erik Kramer is the only QB in Bears history to average over 200 yards a game in passing. Cutler has done it each of his first 3 seasons, and to a much higher average than Kramer. Kramer's first three seasons in the NFL look more like something to forget than anything close in resemblence to Jay Cutler.

Pardon me while I continue enjoying every minute of this trade.

So if Cutler likes Bennett that much, I'm curious how the WR situation will unfold this year.

A good passing game, a better O-Line, and Forte could potentially run for 1500+ yards this year. I'm still scared of our Offensive Coordinator, but trust that Cutler will have free reign back there.

The introduction is today, right? Anyone know when? They said yesterday on Boors and Bernstein that they'd have Cutler on at 3pm today.

What station is that? I'd like to listen online, especially since a Packer fan sits at the next desk over. :)

I guess I'm nitpicking then. When you say this:

It says to me that you aren't pleased with it.

I still have a magazine from early-season '06. The cover:

"On the Hot List: Rex Grossman"

Sure glad I decided against a Grossman jersey.

Right now, I have Ogunleye, Urlacher and my Cutler home white jersey is officially on order. WooHoo!

Mrs. BigbadB is ordering an Olsen.

Where the heck is Goony? I'm interested in his take on this, although I'd imagine he's loving this deal.

Remember the Pro-Bowl voting commercial with Rex and Moose? That was pretty awesome.
