If you watch this you'll probably get too excited over a 5th rounder....

But wow, it's exciting to think about what Cutler could help him turn into...

Cutler

Iglesias

Hester

Knox

E. Bennett

Forte

Olsen

Clark

That's already a very good amount of offensive weapons. Add in a D. Bennett or a Jones and that's a great offense. I'm getting so pumped up to see what Cutler can do with these guys.

I compared Johnny Knox combine numbers to that of one Eddie Royal and guess what...........it is scary have similar Johnny Knox and Royal really are. I think there's a chance that Johnny Knox can be to Cutler in Chicago as Royals was to Cutler in Denver.

That's actually exactly along the lines of what I was thinking.

Mesa thinks that Mark Anderson's head could role if he doesn't have a good camp. He's one-dimensional, so if he isn't rushing the passer why have him around at all?

Yep.

It really is scary how similar of players Knox and Royal truly are.

I doubt we see Knox on the field much his 1st year. I think the transition from Abilene Christian to the NFL is gonna take 2-3 years. Iglesias on the other hand I am much more hopeful he will contribute and quickly. I think we see Hester break the 900 yard barrier for the simple fact that Cutler will be able to hit him on his go routes. There were 30 receivers that reached that mark in 2008, I think he's ready. He's in his 3rd year as a receiver now, 2nd full time. Iglesias and Bennett will be hard to predict, you have to assume Bennett will actually know the playbook here in year 2, so he could blow up for a lot of catches. Iglesias should make a nice niche as he breaks into the lineup more. And there are plenty of catches to go around for Clark, Olsen and Forte.

I don't think they are as similar as you think. They are close to the same size (Knox 6', 185; Royal 5'10", 185). But Royal is much, much stronger. Royal did 24 reps of 225lbs. In addition to strength, Royal seems to be shifter and better with the ball in his hands than Knox, who is more of a straight-line speed WR. This is evidenced by Royal being one of the best return men in the country and Knox being just passable as a returner at a DII school. Strangely, the questions Royal had about route running and his hands aren't there with Knox.

Also, Royal caught 90 passes as a rookie as the #2 WR on a team that threw the ball 620 times. It's pretty outlandish to think Knox will come close to getting on the field as much as Royal and beat out all the competition for balls to be thrown his way.

I didn't say Knox would be on the field as much as Royal was last yr, I said he could be this yr's Royal for Cutler on the Bears. I think if Knox can gain the confidence of Lovie Smith and Jay Cutler, he'll be on the field period. And if his hands are as reliable as his scouting report says they are, I would find it hard for the Bears to keep him off the field. Besides Denver NEEDED something out of Royal---despite not expecting much at the beginning of the season---to compliment Marshall. Outside of Marshall and Royal, Stockley was the only other WR(excluding TE) who was mildly productive. The Bears won't have to count on Knox as much as Denver needed to count on Royal, but it would surprise me if Knox has a very solid 550-800 yrds season as a rookie.

It would to me. Like you said, Royal didn't have much to compete with. Knox is not going to beat out Hester, obviously. He probably isn't going to beat out Bennett for PT, with his familiarity w/ Cutler. He probably isn't going to beat out Iglesias who was drafted higher. And he still has to compete with them, Olsen, Clark, Forte, and possibly Rashied Davis for catches.

It's a mistake to expect more than 300 yards from Knox in 2009. Those projections make much more sense for Iglesias.

I'm perfectly comfortable with Iglesias/Bennett developing into the possession type guys, with Hester continuing as the deep threat. You add that to Olsen/Clark as TE targets, plus Forte catching more passes than your average RB out of the backfield? With a high-quality QB delivering the ball on every play???

That's a much better offense than we've seen in Chicago in a long, long time.

Let a guy like Knox learn the ropes in '09, perhaps '10 too. He can be our deep threat to emerge as a compliment to Hester in a couple years. We'll be scoring points like Chicagoans haven't seen if all goes well.

If you want to see Gilbert's potential, the draft guys have a video on him, too:

http://draftguys.com/index.php/articles/dgtv_1/jarron_gilbert_video/

I found it amusing that they call him an ideal 3-4 end in the making :) Well, that didn't happen, but......we'll still take him to compete for a spot on Lovie's speed-first, gap control 4-3.

I just like the name Johnny Knox. Sounds porn-y.

I would even say that I'd be shocked if that isn't a porn name somewhere.

I don't know why I just thought this, but I'm glad the Bears didn't end up getting Favre last offseason. Somehow I doubt this whole Cutler thing would've happened in that case.

I'm pretty sure I was glad at the time.

Who knew when I was at GABP watching Woody blow the save and heard that Brady was out for the season, that that would ultimately result in the Bears getting Jay Cutler in a weird, but fairly directly related, sequence of events?

There were those that wanted him though.

Me being one of them. Starving me this long without a quarterback can make me delirious, however.

You'll see similar posts from me in the Cubs forums. They've been starving me of a championship a smidge too long.

I'm sure there were, and I'm sure I thought about it. But by the time this all went down I was predicting to my Jets fans friends exactly what would happen. He's have limited knowledge of the playbook given his late start in camp, have a couple big games, but ultimately ruin their chances with some horrible INTs.

I'm not afraid of Minnesota signing him. Although if they do, I hope it's not until August.

Yes, Bernard Pollard is a hero in my book!

He was to me long before Jay Cutler arrived on the scene.

I didn't say he would get more then 300 yards as a rookie, I said it wouldn't surprise me if he is productive like Eddie Royal as a rookie. Besides, if his hands are s reliable as people say he is, he'll quickly become a favorite with Cutler and the coaching staff.

If he doesn't get 300 yards he's not productive like Eddie Royal who caught 90 balls for 1000+. I guess I don't understand your point.

I think he's differentiating between what he thinks is likely to happen, and what he wouldn't be surprised of if it happened.

Oh ok. Still, he should be very surprised if that does happen, because that is an extreme long-shot for a 5th round rookie WR, who's probably going to be at best 4th or 5th on the WR depth chart and behind 3 options at other positions in the passing game.

I agree. I think one of the only ways that does happen is if Hester gets injured. He seems to me to be somebody acquired specifically to push Hester and be potential replacement if he falters.
