There was some discussion in the Peavy thread about whether giving up Lee or Aramis or Soto, etc is worth getting Peavy. Clearly if the Peavy deal were to happen there are an inifinite amount of potential packages that could be put together. What I would like to get a sense of is who on the Cubs roster NSBBers feel we couldn't give up at all, regardless of the package.

So the question is this: if you were Jim Hendry and putting together a package of players to get Peavy, and only Peavy, which of the following players would you tell Towers or a third team's GM is off-limits? Assume NTCs for the Cubs' contracts can be negotiated around and the trades would be for the players straight up (i.e. the Cubs don't have to eat any of the outgoing players' salaries to make the deal work).

Btw mods if you feel that another Peavy thread is too much, feel free to nix this. Was just hoping to get a quantitative sense where NSBBers heads are at.

I said Zambrano, Harden, and Soto. Trading Zambrano or Harden would seem to shoot the purpose, since they wouldn't be gaining much. And Soto is the one position player I consider to be untouchable. I'd hesitate to trade Aram, but I don't think I'd consider him to be completely untouchable (although if I were to trade him it would pretty much need to be one-for-one, without trading anybody else besides Aram).

Agree on Zambrano and Soto, but I'd trade Harden to get Peavy. I guess our experience with Prior and Wood has left me less willing than most to pin our hopes on injury-prone SPs. Plus Harden is signed thru 2009 only right now.

I wouldn't include Aramis in a trade for Peavy.

I said Harden, Zambrano, Dempster (only because we can't trade him since he just signed), and Soto.

Trading one of our pitchers would defeat the purpose of getting Peavy, and Soto is too sexy to trade.

I said Harden, Zambrano, Dempster, Ramirez, soto, and Marmol. Dempster for same reason and the others are the best par of our team

How could people not be willing to trade Marmol for Peavy straight up?

I wouldn't trade Ramirez because he's the Cubs best hitter and probably irreplacable for several years. Wouldn't trade Soto either. I'd deal Zambrano because I think Peavy is better than him and we're talking similar dollar figures coming and going.

Well the question says a package. I'm not willing to send Marmol along with others for Peavy. I think people are generally assuming we won't get Peavy for Marmol and a bunch of crap.
