Josh Vitters, Sean Marshall, J.A. Happ, and Ronny Cedeno seems like a very solid return for Jake Peavy.

and vitters, derosa, marshall and cedeno is quite a bit to give up for him

Are we thinking Marquis is out then?

11:02pm: Jim Salisbury backs up the idea that the Phils could receive DeRosa and the Padres could get Happ. It's worth noting that the Cubs could trim $5.5MM off the payroll by sending out DeRosa and using Fontenot at second base.

everyones gotta know man. its a big deal. or something.

I think it's a big deal. If you're not blocked by me then it generally means that I *want* to read your posts because I *value* what you say and think you, sometimes, have a better opinion than me. Key word: generally. You're not blocked. Generally because you can't block mods, admins, or yourself, unfortunately. I tried all of the above.

You do get that people are mocking you, right?

And another person joins the banned list.

I don't think we'll trade Marshall... If we get rid of Marquis then we'll really need Marshall as insurance. I think the Padres will get Vitters, Cedeno, Hart, Happ, and Olson for him. Pie to Baltimore. Marquis to PHI. Everyone wins. Except maybe PHI but maybe they think they win too.

We could pull a spare prospect from the Phils to help it out a bit. Heitor Correa, maybe?

If we are giving up both DeRosa and Marquis, I can only imagine that we'll be getting back an outfielder like Giles or Scott or Hairston.

ship marquis and that 5.5 mil to colorado for street and see if we can call tradeback on gregg

not that the rox would do that in a million years, but we should be trying for a gregg tradeback regardless

I know the Cubs are in win now mode but maybe the Padres soured on Matt Antonelli after .193/.292/.281 last year... in 57 at bats. Nevermind.

if philly gives up happ they are certainly going to get more than marquis.... hence the derosa rumors.

Cubs give- Vitters/Pie/DeRosa/Marquis/Hart

Cubs get- Peavy

Phillies give- Happ

Phillies get- Marquis, DeRosa

Orioles give- Olson

Orioles get- Pie

Padres give- Peavy

Padres get- Vitters/Olson/Happ/Hart

That would be my guess

That's a ton to give up for Peavy, but I'd still love it.

Do you really think Happ is worth Marquis (a ML starter) and DeRosa (a very good player)

This trade looks more fair if we get someone like Scott Hairston or Giles back in return as well.

marquis has negative value and i wouldn't classify derosa as a "very good" player. not unless he duplicates his 2008...which won't happen

I don't think Marquis has negative value to the Phillies. They NEED starters. They are contemplating giving Jamie Moyer 10 million $. Jamie Moyer is like 45 years old and not good. I would much rather have Marquis.

Giles isn't going anywhere. He vetoed a few trades last season, including one to the Cubs, as I recall.

all things considered, dero in 2008 was fantastic, in 2007 and 2006 he was merely very good...350 wOBA at second base and paying about $1M per win over replacement, thats freakin great

maybe not negative value, but i think it would be more of a "we'll take his salary off your hands" type thing. i think at this point hendry doesn't expect to actually get anything back for marquis. you're right though, the phils might need to give up another lower level guy

i don't think an .800 ops guy can ever be considered "very good" unless he's a gold glove shortstop or catcher and/or steals bases like jacoby ellsbury

he also said depending on the near term future of the team he'd possibly accept a trade next summer...well the near term future of the team doesn't look good. I'm not saying we'll get him, but its probably not 100% that we can't
