I would love to give Greinke a shot, but something tells me that the Cubs don't want to deal with another talented pitcher with mental/headcase issues.

However, we are an organization that prides itself on a players' performance from the previous year, so maybe we'd give him a look.

If I'm not mistaken, Greinke was able to put his mental problems on the backburner this past season, was he not?

Here's an article on Greinke not anting to sign a long term deal until he's a free agent:

I couldn't find the old thread. He has two (i think) years left to free agency, so the Royals certainly ought to listen to offers.

Maybe we get the Royals to be the third team in a Peavy deal? Find a way to get Greinke to San Diego?

I'd rather have Greinke that Peavy.

I wouldn't go that far. Unless of course Greinke meant the Cubs spent big on the offense (Texiera, Manny). SD would be making out if they got Greinke in a 3-way deal for Peavy.

Thats really the perfect 3 way deal for the Padres, if the Royals want to give us Dejesus for CF in the process that would be ok by me.

All things considered...I would.

While Greinke obviously isn't as good as Peavy, hes not terribly far off and has a much much better production to salary ratio than Peavy (they're probably pretty equal in 2009, but Greinke is much more cost effective in 2010). Not to mention, he probably would cost less in terms of prospects to send AND, as you mentioned we'd be able to spend more money elsewhere.
