Tim Lincecum received 23 of 32 first-place votes to win NL Cy Young honors on Tuesday.

Lincecum received 137 points to Brandon Webb's 73 and Johan Santana's 55, so it's clear the Giants had absolutely no need to push him so hard down the stretch in a shameless bid to secure him the award. Webb and Santana received four first-place votes a piece. CC Sabathia received the other, though he finished behind Brad Lidge in fifth place.

 

They got this one right. Congrats to the kid, he deserved it

Yeah! congratulations to Lincecum. FYI Dempster came in 6th.

I wonder if he fulfilled any incentives with his placement in the Cy balloting this year

I don't know why it bugs me that much. When I saw him talking on ESPN the other day I didn't hear a single word he said. I was just focusing on his teeth.

 

But I'm sure nobody cares much about that, because he's dominant and awesome on the mound.

I'm really surprised to see so few votes for CC. What happened there?

 

The mid-season trade probably hurt him. Had he been traded in May or early June, he'd have probably won it going away.

Lincecum has a sparkling smile compared to Tom Gorzelanny.

 

I also think it's pretty funny that Sabathia got a first place vote. Between that and Dale Sveum getting a third place vote for Manager of the Year, I think the MJS duo of Haudricourt and Witrado cast some ridiculously biased ballots. I can't wait to see that Ryan Braun somehow got one or two first place votes for MVP.

Does anyone think Lidge was ripped off? Personally I don't think so.

Lidge was 32nd in the NL in pitcher VORP. Of course, VORP is affected by the innings that a pitcher pitches, but in an award named after Cy Young, I consider the innings pitched an important part of the equation.
