If it's TJS, he's probably going to miss half of the 09 season.

Its not like there were some huge 2009 plans for him with the big league club. Hes still young, so hopefully it will be a success, and he can be a productive part of the Cubs future.

Confirmed by the Cubs that Colvin had TJS. Oneri Fleita seems to think Colvin won't miss much of the 2009 season:

It's flared up a few times in the last 18 months. Speculating on my own, I think it might have hampered his swing. He's the kind of guy that plays through injury, though. The severity of the injury was a surprise because he played through it. He's one tough nut.

 

"If there is a silver lining, though, it's that it was Tommy John surgery and not a shoulder. A position player can come back from this much quicker than a pitcher. He's a great worker and I'd be surprised if he missed more than two or three weeks next season. The doctors' work on something like this is magical, and it will be five or six months depending on how things go."

Tony Womack had TJS after his spectacular showing with us in 03 and didn't miss any time the following season. I doubt Colvin misses a couple weeks if any time at all

TJS for a hitter isnt that big of a deal. Hell be back by May at the latest. Maybe not playing the OF every day, but he'll be swinging at first pitches and flailing at sliders in April in all likelihood.

on second thought, maybe best case scenario is that he is unable to swing in april, but the cubs force him to DH and so he learns what taking pitches is.
