I'm happy that we "lost out" on D'Antoni too. We need to play defense to win titles.

.

While talent rules in the NBA, I'd say you need some semblance of a head coach to be competitive. VDN is a complete joke. D'Antoni would have been so great for this club. Derrick Rose #'s would be even better than they are now, this team would be fun as well to watch and it would have helped in attracting FA's. Yes, he eventually would have worn out his time, but would have brought this team a point were they are ready to contend.

The fact he isn't coaching this team is a complete and utter joke. Thanks Reinsdorf and Pax..again.

Vinny is a joke.

Lots of us said this when he was first hired too. I don't understand why Pax did this. It doesn't take much basketball knowledge to see that a guy with no coaching experience is not the right choice. I have little basketball expertise. How come I could see this and Pax couldn't? I'm just asking because that move seemed dumb at the time, and even dumber now. Even if Vinny somehow finds his coaching voice now, it will still have been a bad move because we've now lost time.

It was a pure financial move, so I shouldn't be blaming Paxson for this one. The Bulls head coaching search was 100% Reindsdorf and after he decided he didn't want to ruin his relationship with Doug Collins....he went straight for the budget buy.

"I love Doug Collins," Reinsdorf told the newspaper. "It's not a great thing for friends to jeopardize a relationship for business. And relationships with coaches always end at some point.

Honest to god, before you jump in with your little critques at least do some research. It was clearly noted during the Bulls coaching search that Collins dropped out for this reason.

that wasn't the point I was contending

Yes it was and you know it.

No, it really wasn't. It's your constant accusation that Reinsdorf refused to pay anyone any money and always goes for the cheapest option.

And there is plenty evidence to support that.

Despite being the most profitable team in the NBA, they continue to operate as a small market team. It is common knowledge the Bulls refuse to pay the luxury tax. Pau Gasol is not here for that reason.

if it's "common knowledge", give a link. there must be tons of websites that say it's true

Year in and year out the Bulls are the most profitable teams in the NBA, yet they haven't paid the luxury tax since Jordan. The only time they were a remote player for a big name FA was Ben Wallace..then again it was really down to the Bull and Pistons so maybe most of the league realized he was done.

It isn't hard to determine we have a big ownership problem here and it is 100% fair to say Reinsdorf is a bad owner. Over 10 years now since we have had an all star. No big name FA's and brutal drafting the past decade and both GM's during this time have been in-house guys. Why not look for an well respect outsider to run this organization? Why should, as a lifelong fan, look at this organizationg and say anything but "ownership sucks"

VDN might be worse than Jim Boylan was IMO. He is really brutal.

I agree, which is really sad because I though Boylan was the worst coach I ever saw. Just end this already and promote Bickerstaff or Del Harris for crying out loud.

VDN is beyond awful. Thabo Sefalosha is the Bulls leading scoring through 1 and he was taken out for Nocioni 6 minutes into the quarter. Larry Hughes is chucking up a storm so far.

I agree that Vinny is bad right now, but it's his first year. He has room to develop a system. I'm not ready to say he's always going to be a bad coach yet.

I am ready to say that the Bulls shouldn't have hired him though. He may well be the next Pat Riley, but this team needed structure, a defensive system and discipline.

That sounds familiar. Maybe they should have blown out the roster, not the coach, but then Paxson would have to take culpablity.

All I know is that D'Antoni would have been a long-term huge mistake, Vinny doesn't have the experience to mold a young team and Paxson has drafted terribly.

I think Larry Brown should have been the hire. He'd teach the team right and step down in 3 years. Right on time to make a run in his last year with a dominant Rose and the season right after the huge FA class. I'm just bitter because the Bulls are to me, a top job in the NBA. Celtics, Lakers, Knicks and Bulls. If you're a marquee franchise with a marquee franchise rookie, you don't hire a raw coach.

I hate that foul they just called on Aaron Gray. Every time a big man shows hard, any decent slasher just runs into him, throws his body backwards, and gets the call. Dwayne Wade is infamous for it, but LeBron and Kobe aren't far behind.

Gray deserves those calls for being so big, so white, and so bad.

He would have been a great short term solution. His offense by default creates a ton of shots. This means a ton of points to go around. This also means a ton of rebounds available. The scrubs on this team would have been able to inflate their stats and actually make them desired around the league.

The flip side of that is how overvalued they would be to Paxson. He already falls in love with his guys. Just think what he'd do when they are putting up hollow numbers.

Larry Brown has been known to not play rookies though.

Rose would play no matter the rookie-hating coach.
