This is so like '04 when most wanted to get rid of Sammy and Alou. Let's not do that again. '05 and '06 were awful. Lets try and get a little better and go at it again next year. All these people who were rational before saying that the playoffs are a crapshoot now are forgeting that very fact.

It's not a crapshoot when you turn in one of the worst playoff appearances of all time. The team choked, and Soriano is one of the worst playoff performers of all time considering the number of at bats he's gotten. Nothing wrong with trying to get rid of him.

There is if there is no better option to replace him. Getting rid of him to let Hoffpauir play is akin to moving Alou so DuBois can play. Now if you sign Manny Ramirez then by all means move Soriano. Even if we do that though, Soriano has a no trade clause and a huge contract that both make it impossible to move him.

I'm not advocating replacing him with someone like Hoffpauir. But if someone will take that contract, you jump on it.

Here's some facts for you Soriano defenders. He hit .250 against righty's w/ an obp of .317. He has clearly shown how piss poor of a clutch player he is w/ his 3 total singles & no extra base hits in the last two playoff yrs & a propensity for idiotic statements in the press following his awfulness. He wracks up numbers against poor lefty's during the season to pad his stats. He will not be hitting leadoff for the Cubs next year. He was coddled two yrs in a row & Lou is surely smart enough to know that by now last yrs debacle was not a fluke as we just saw the rerun this year. This team will go back after Roberts as he is a lefty that is patient, a good hitter & has a leadoff mentality. Soriano is a mental midget like many on here that defend him when there is no defense of him. Fukodome needs to either platoon w/ Reed or be sent down. I'd like to see the lefty Ibanez brought in as well. I would not be surprised to see DLee traded as 1B are a dime a dozen & Lee seemingly leads the league w/ 6-4-3 double play at bats. In fact, Lee is one of the leaders in the league w/ hitting ground balls while Soriano is one of the leaders in fly ball outs. Neither have the mentality to hit where they are hitting based on that alone. It should be the opposite.

*does forums search for SORIANO*

*froths at the mouth*

*leaves for a month*

I don't think I've ever been on a message board where you see that a guy recently made a post and you KNOW 100% what it's going to be about, no matter what thread or forum it's in. There could be a post about the bailout and he's find a way to bring Soriano into it.

3 games in October are a better indicator of player value than 161 regular season games.

I've learned something here tonight, and I thank you, kind sir.

Maybe wrigley23 is an OH poster in diguise. All those guy think the Cubs would have advanced if Roberts was leadingg off instead of Soriano. Pretty funny.

It's incredibly unlikely that anyone takes on the contract, and it's incredibly stupid that people keep acting like Soriano hurts this team instead of being an invaluable part of its offense that helped it win the divison two years in a row.

Nobody likes his contract, but this talk like "he's hurting the team" or that "he needs to go" is just asinine.

That was fun!

it seems like he just attacks whoever the newest hispanic player on the team is. for a while it was Ramirez...

10/15/06

He didn't put them up when it counted (when dlee was out early in the year) & that's what counts. The guy is a loser & needs traded for young talent that has character.

also strangely enough he was advocating signing soriano at one point

11/19/06

why not go for lugo at ss or 2B & Soriano in center. Anything short of an impact bat in the OF & one impact starting pitcher is unacceptable. I don't count Drew as the impact bat we need either. I'd get Lugo for short & then package izturis w/ murton to get a starter.

I wish I could have that sort of smile. At least act like you are upset Soriano.

Oh. Right. Be patient. My bad.

We may take baseball too seriously, but then again we don't get paid $18 million a year.

he should definitely be in tears. or at least doing the charlie brown walk.

I know I know, I'm definitely overreacting to the photos. I just can't get over the fact that the players typically care about the results less than we do. Plus pretty much everything Soriano has done since the regular season ended has pissed me off.

I mean why should he care, he makes $18 million a year, cheats on his wife whenever he wants, can pretty much buy whatever he wants, and has the next 4 months off basically (obviously he'll be working out and stuff).

Have you honestly not smiled since Saturday?

Of course I have. But not to anything Cubs related.

Just because Soriano is a Cub doesn't mean he's smiling to anything Cub related.

I just think its odd that while coming to Wrigley Field, making his first public appearance since a disastrous postseason (both for himself and the team) he is seen yucking it up like he doesn't have a care in the world. I would guess having millions of dollars to fall back on would do that to you.

Again, I'm overreacting, I know, it just strikes me the wrong way. And honestly, if it doesn't make some of the comments he made after the game, I probably don't think twice about the photos. I'm probably taking the photo well out of context though.

I just realized how funny that 2nd picture is. He's dragging his bag behind him, the ultimate sign of failure -- and he's like "yeah baby, right back at ya! w00t! happy times!"

He should be McCain's campaign advisor.
