I don't think I'll ever have the same "gusto" about Cubs Baseball during the regular season again. They could go 120-42 next year and I'll just shrug and say: "Big deal".

Until this team can get to and win the WS, division championships, while nice, just won't mean much.

Lets face it, they have won 3 division championships in the last 6 years. It's getting to be almost expected now.

This was/is the best team we have seen in most of our life times; 97 wins, huge favorites to get to the series and all of the fun this team gave us this year and then to go out like this? Sorry, I'll really never trust ANY Cubs team again.

To live and die with a team for 6 months, to see them blitz the league and then watch them HAND the series to the Dodgers is too much to take.

The players change but the results never do. If they don't come back, I'll never trust them again.

You'll still enjoy the regular season, you just won't let a 5 game winning streak get your expectations sky high, you won't read all the Cubbie fluff pieces and get a euphoric feeling in your head, you won't want to discuss the Cubs prognosis as excitedly with your friends and family.

Make no mistake guys, we are making progress here. 3 playoffs in 6 years, 4 above .500 seasons in 6 years, and 1 that just missed. These may be baby steps, but at least we are a better franchise than we were between 1945 and 2003.

Knowing a few Red Sox fans, whether it's this year or not, it'll all be well worth it when it does happen.

And if we keep spending like this and making the playoffs on a consistent basis, it will happen. Eventually.

the funny thing is...they had 11 straight playoff loses before they finally picked up one of those elusive wins...my best friend is a red sox fan and he said that to me the other night...something i didn't know...THAT MEANS WE WILL HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR IF WE GET THAT FAR...

plus...our story is slightly worse than the redsox...so...how many consecutive playoff loses does this team need? 12, 15, 20?

maybe it is just 8, and we can flip it on its side and go to infinity and beyond!

It's just a pain as a Cub fan.

The regular season brings so much joy and excitement and then they just fall on their asses when they get pushed back. In fact they never even pushed LAD in the first place.

I wouldn't mind it getting to 14 to match 1994. That'd be cool.

In the regular season, yes. But in the postseason they're the same gutless chokers they've always been.

I was going to post something like this in the game thread, basically calling for a moratorium on any "this team is different" type posts, of which I made many myself this year. Because clearly, being different doesn't mean jack in the playoffs.

I know people around here love correcting silly mistakes, so I'm surprised that nobodys stopped to ask how we'll manage to go to the World Series without winning the next 3.

Yea, I just figured I was too out of it to figure out the title

because it's not a mistake, it's a poorly constructed sentence.

Every generation of fans has a Cubs team that breaks their hearts to the point that, no matter how good the team looks, pessimism prevails going forward. For the older generation it was '69 (or even '45), for some it was '84, and for younger generations '03 was the heartbreaker. Regardless of how good the team looked in the regular season, anyone who has been following this team for at least the past five years shouldn't have walked into the postseason with anything more than apprehensive optimism.
