An interesting read on Kosuke's first season

"I think somewhere, deep in my heart, I expected something like this would happen," Fukudome said about his struggles at the plate. "I don't think it's been hard. Obviously, the results are not good, but at least I'm contributing to the team in other areas."

The Cubs need Fukudome in right field. He's considered the best defensive right fielder the Cubs have had since Andre Dawson.

"I'm not doing anything different from what I used to do in Japan," Fukudome said.

Good to see that Kosuke isn't making excuses. Hopefully, he'll be able to rebound next year and come back as the same Fukudome we saw pre-ASB.

Well, if he was doing the same thing back in the first half that he's doing now, his batting techniques can't be the problem.

I think it's a classic case of the league figuring him out, and I think in 2009, he WILL have to do something different.

Whenever a major league teams start drooling over the next big Japanese superstar, maybe they should put into consideration how many of old mediocre-below average major leaguers went over to Japan and became superstars. See Julio Zuleta, Tuffy Rhodes, Randall Siman, Larry Bigbie, etc.

Meh. MLB washouts have monster years at AAA every year - Dallas McPherson, Mike Hessman, Chris Richard, and Nelson Cruz to name a few this year - but that doesn't mean there aren't any truly talented players in the league.

Ummm, Fukudome's statistics have been steadily dropping each month. I don't think it is just a "2nd half" thing. His front side has been flying open all year, and I have been wondering why there haven't seemed to be any adjustments.

He still has worth, but I think at this point the team is better with DeRosa in RF and Fontenot at 2nd in most situations.

No to mention that Randall Simon and Larry Bigbie never played in Japan.
