The Phillies clinch the division with a win or NY loss, and the Brewers clinch the wild card with a win and NY loss. The NL playoff race might just sort itself out by Saturday night.

Unfortunately, I'll have to watch a meaningless Yankees-Red Sox game down here in North Carolina, but for those of you living in Illinois or Wisconsin, enjoy the Cubs game.

It's all always exciting to see playoff races go to the last game of the season (unless one of those teams is your, of course).

Go Indians!

Go Twins!

Go Marlins!

Go Phillies!

It will be interesting to see how many pitches Johan throws today on short rest. He's at 77 after 5.

why did they pitch him on short rest?

Who else do they have to pitch today? Oliver Perez on 2 days rest? He's the best option at this point.

Coming off his career high in pitches against the Cubs and pitching on short rest, Jerry Manuel sends Johan out for the 8th inning with a pc of 97. He'll be gassed for the playoffs if the Mets do make it.

The Marlins, however, act like they want to be golfing already and see all of 7 pitches in the inning.

It's a desperation move, but I have to say I agree with it. Manuel said earlier this week that he wouldn't start Johan on short rest, but that was before they were trailing 1 game with 2 games left.

Although I would've taken him out at about 85 pitches or so. Yeah, their pen sucks, but he's just going to be completely dead even if they make the postseason.

Not only that, but Santana can pitch in Game 2 of the NLDS on regular rest and come back for a Game 5 on short rest. But like you said, he'll be dead. SOOOOO many pitches right now.

Santana is seriously staying in for the complete game? he's at 115 right now and they have a two run lead, wtf?

I guess if you have him throw that many you really, really don't want to lose the game and the bullpen is a crapshoot.

Former Cub Brendan Harris drives in a run for the Twins on a 2B.

Interesting thought. I wonder when the Dodgers, assuming it's the Dodgers that we face, will get to Chicago. If it's Monday, the Twins, White Sox, Tigers, Cubs and Dodgers may all be in Chicago on the same day...

I know the game's already over, but do you trust that Mets bullpen to hold a two run lead?

And I actually like what the Mets did in throwing Santana today rather than tomorrow because if they make the postseason, it helps them a lot.

The schedule goes Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday for both NL series. That means they have the option of throwing Santana on three days rest in Game 1 on Wednesday as well as potentially on three days rest for Game 4 or five days rest for Game 5. They could also throw Santana on regular rest in Game 2 and bring him back on regular rest for a Game 5 if it gets played.

If they pitched Santana tomorrow, however, there's no way he pitches on two days rest in Game 1 and if you throw him in Game 2 it's on three days rest. At least now they have the option of Santana going in Game 1.

6-1 now.

Good to see two races will go down to tomorrow.

If the White Sox lose tonight, it guarantees that either the Twins win the division, or the Sox have to play that make up game Monday. The Twins cannot be eliminated tomorrow.

Excellent move by the Mets. Plus, today was more of a must win at the time than tomorrow. They didn't have the luxury of seeing how the Brewers did first. If they didn't win today, then they could have been eliminated by a Brewers win then saving Santana for tomorrow would have been pointless. Kinda like saving Zambrano for Game 4 last year then getting swept.
