ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET CARDINALS FANS (BFIFB)

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals manager Tony La Russa planned to stand and cheer when 2006 World Series MVP David Eckstein was introduced as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ second baseman on Monday night.

“I’m looking forward to the reception he gets,” Eckstein’s former manager said. “I’ll be clapping.”

The last time one of the team’s departed heroes returned, things were not nearly so cordial. La Russa took exception to remarks Jim Edmonds made to Chicago reporters about wanting to move on from the past, so he chose to ignore his former star center fielder and asked fans to follow his lead.

“The only thing Jim did differently was he disassociated himself from us,” La Russa said. “He’s the only guy that ever did that.

“He’s the only guy that said, ’Hey, I’m not a Cardinal, don’t even remind me of that.”’

Wait so you're supposed to play for the Cardinals even when you don't play for the Cardinals?

The irony is that Edmonds did twice as much for the Cardinals as Eckstein and Taguchi combined...probably even more. I know I hated Edmonds as much as any Cardinal, while Eckstein and Taguchi barely registered.

I would guess that it comes down to Jim being a Cub now.
