well despite my best efforts to keep expectations low, the overall goodness of the cubs has caused my hopes to become elevated, so any exit will result in bitter disappointment and, most likely, angry drunkenness.

The Cubs are the best team in the league, something they haven't accomplished in a long time, and we will always have that to fall back on.

and at the end of the playoffs, that and 50 cents will get you a phone call.

If you want to decide that a coin-flip tournament is more important to you than a 162-game regular season, that's your call.

I've made my choice :)

Simple math.

I believe the Cubs are the best team in the NL. I give them a 60% chance to win any given series.

Thus, the Cubs have a 36% chance to win both series. The field gets 64%.

It has nothing to do with negativism, curses or anything like that. It's simply the playoff format that doesn't give the best teams enough time to establish their superiority.

You just proved that your prediction is not very bold :)

I predict that IF the Cubs win the WS, that there will be some hugely controversial play that will play in the Cubs' favor but will hold their championship up to decades of scrutiny and second-guessing

Already happened, with the two extra "home" games. Just ask any Astro player/fan/coach.
