Eh, if he's been pitching with it since August I'd expect him to finish the season. He's not going to want to have his season cut short right before he hits free agency.

Finishing the season with 2-3 appearances where you're pulled after two innings or so with elbow pain isn't going to do anything for his impending FA either. This may be the best thing as far as the Brewers chances of getting him to stay (though I still think it's unlikely).

So hed rather suffer a more severe injury right before he hits free agency?

He could try dex, but he said last night it was worse and he wasn't able to get the ball where he needed it. So I think the Brewers would have to consider whether or not he'll be effective. Plus, if you pitch him for his final 2 starts then will it be worse for the playoffs?

Maybe the Crew shuts him down, hoping to somehow get into the playoffs and pitch him then.

I don't think so. I think the Brewers will use him if he can pitch. They probably don't care b/c they are not likely to sign him for next year and beyond.

If he doesn't improve from last night then it might do more harm to the Crew's playoff chances than good. I don't wish injury on the guy but pitching with pain the elbow.....that's a dicey endeavor.

I feel a little bad for the guy if he is seriously hurt. If so, he was about three weeks away from a ridiculous payday.

I don't want Ben back, Ben is a wuss, Ben don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Pitching a complete game 1-0 shutout with a bad elbow is a far cry from being a wuss.

Really, I want to know what the hell Yost was thinking letting him throw 110-120 pitches per start despite knowing about this. No wonder he got fired.

If Sheets can't make another start, the Brewers are toast. It's awfully tough to make the postseason when your rotation to end the year is Sabathia-McClung-Suppan-Bush-DiFelice.

Guys who play baseball and hurt themselves doing it need to get the sand out. What does he want to be able to play catch with his kids someday or something? And to do it at such a convenient time for him seems a little fishy. Way to grab for that big money Ben, who cares about the playoffs big jerk.

Getting Yosted from beyond the figurative grave

Wow, I totally didn't realize Parra was pulled too.

Yeah, one of Sveum's first "personnel" announcements was that he was taking Parra out of the rotation. It's probably for the best -- he's never pitched this many innings before and has a history of legit arm injuries (not the Sheets-like "tight" muscles), and was extremely ineffective in September (something like a 10.00 ERA). Of course, if Sheets has to miss a start or two, Parra may end up going right back into the rotation, since he's the only guy who's stretched out enough to start effectively. At this point, DiFelice can probably only go 3-4 innings, so you'd have to piggyback him with another long man.

He was going to be a risky sign given his injury history. On the plus side, elbow pain is not as bad as shoulder pain in terms of what they can do to fix it.

I wonder what kind of contract Ben would get if he needed TJS(Not even speculation or anything, just speaking hypothetically)

I don't think a pitcher of Sheets's caliber has ever been on the market while injured. He's obviously not going to get the standard rehab deal of 500K + 3-4M for the 2nd year. It'd be a really interesting market to see if anybody signs a guy to a big contract knowing he'd provide nothing the next year.

I think you guys are vastly underestimating what Sheets will get on the open market. If he can go in April, he'll get 14M/per minimum.

Burnett got 11/55 a couple years ago, with his history. No doubt Sheets would get probably 4/60.

That the sort of move the Orioles would make.

I don't know who would, but if we've learned anything over the last several years, it's that somebody will.

Somebody paid Fukudome, after all.

Houston's a good possibility -- they don't seem to be too worried about spending money, Sheets has always loved the Houston area because it's so close to Louisiana, and he's very good friends with Oswalt from their Team USA days.
